A detective descends into the beatnik world to track a killer of women. This is another great lost sex-weirdie from that netherland of 60s grindhouse exploi-flix. The hero is a time-worn pop-culture archetype: the "detective-cad" (and one of the dumbest ever seen). The heroine is a sexy-chick anthropology professor at NYU! The film's great title is highly peripheral, merely the name of a bar where one of murdered girls used to hustle. Much of the film takes place at unidentified crash-pads of early 60s Greenwich Village beatniks. To call this film anti-beatnik would be an understatement: the beat generation are witheringly portrayed as cynical hypocrites, pretentious substance abusers, violent fops and ultimately, homicidal maniacs and sex perverts. Add to this an abrupt, confusing finale in a real-life Westchester kiddy amusement park, "Frontier Town," which takes place for no reason whatsoever. Oh, they really rolled the warped 60s into one big Freudian ball of goo with this one!
