Trivia

Certain aspects of the character Ferris are based on a rubber planter by the name of Haddon-Cave. His was the only rubber plantation to escape terrorist attack in Malaya. Haddon-Cave was suspected of collusion with the MNLA by General Templer. When Templer investigated, he found the actual reason for the planter's immunity from attacks was, as Haddon-Cave put it, "we have the best damned security perimeter in the country". Templer was forced to agree. See more »

Goofs

Dhana is set up by the Communists who have placed hand grenades in a hollowed out durian fruit. They then place the durian in her bicycle basket and wait for her to pass through a police road inspection. Once cut, durians emit a very foul odor similar to the smell of feces. It is very unlikely Dhana would not have noticed this. See more »

Major Ferris: Wait a minute. Fasten that bra a little. We don't want that to come loose in case somebody blows your head off on the way home.

My Favorite Movie (and Novel) But...
11 January 2008 | by (Kampong Thom, KOC) – See all my reviews

A British colony in Asia is under attack from terrorists. A suspected terrorist has been captured, tried, and convicted. The sentence is death. The terrorist group kidnaps the British governor's daughter. She will be killed if the execution proceeds. Time is running out. Only her lover, Ferrell, can save her. No mistake. It's Paul Ferrell and he's rescuing Caroline rather than Candace this time. The movie (actually a serial or in the States a miniseries) is "A Place of Execution" from 1953 eight years before "The Durian Tree" was published and eleven years before "The 7th Dawn" was released. Is this a strange coincidence or a reused plot line? Draw your own conclusions.
