Eddie is thrown out of his apartment due to the murder accusation and moves in with Ada. Peyton calls Leslie and warns him Lee is coming over to kill him and attempts to blackmail him into killing Lee. Betty tells Steven about the night of Adrienne's death. Lee attempts to kill Leslie, and Leslie shoots him in defense.
A severely injured Lee leaves the mill. Steven announces he has found out Eddie isn't responsible for Adrienne's death. Lee arrives at the Peyton mansion and threatens to shoot Peyton, but Steven defends Peyton and Lee is eventually accidentally shot to death.
A lost baby has been found on a bus in Peyton Place. Steven tells Betty she will be investigated, unless she poses as his loving wife. Leslie denies having hired Eddie to kill Peyton. Peyton leaves town due to health reasons and assigns Leslie to run the mill and leaves the mansion to Steven. Jill arrives at the hospital and identifies herself as the lost baby's mother.
Dr. Rossi at first doesn't believe the baby's mother is the young, unwed Jill. She admits she stole the baby from an adoption agency. Steven questions Michael about Peyton's condition. Betty admits she needs Rod. Connie mistakes Jill for Allison.
Mrs. Hewitt refuses to sublet Jill a room because she is an unwed mother, but Eli persuades her to change her mind. Sandy, visiting Peyton Place to attend Lee's funeral, stops to talk to Steven. Norman assures Rita she can't trust Eddie, but agrees on accepting him. Rod and Betty share a romantic night at a ski lodge.
Dr. Rossi is still reluctant to release the baby to Jill. Jill later asks Rodney and after-wards Eli for a job. Steven tells Betty that Adrienne's official cause of death is an accident. Jill tells Connie she ran away from home when she found out she was pregnant. Connie is surprised to hear Jill knows something about Allison.
Connie thinks Allison has an illegitimate baby. Jill fears her baby will be taken away from her. Norman tells Eddie he wishes he would go away forever. Steven is upset that Betty is now dating Rodney and he forces himself up to her. When she shows no reaction, he hits her. Eddie tells Rita he is leaving town, causing her to go into distress.
Following the news of her father, Rita collapses. Dr. Rossi thinks she needs heart surgery. Following Steven's assault, Betty's face is covered with wounds. When Rod finds out, he goes to the mansion to beat up Steven. Jill makes more mysterious mentions about the Carson family.
Rita is diagnosed with pulmonary edema and undergoes open heart surgery. Norman fears losing her and the baby. Ada reconciles with Eddie for Rita's best interest. Connie scolds Jill for her frequent self-comparison with Allison.
Jill tells Steven that Kelly is Allison's baby. She tells him that she met Allison four months ago in Kansas. Meanwhile, Dr. Rossi announces that Rita is fine. Rita's condition suddenly worsens and she is again taken into surgery.
Following the surgery, Rita suffers a miscarriage. Connie doesn't believe Kelly is Allison's baby. Ada catches Eddie running out on the family again. Eddie admits he returned to Peyton Place to con Rita out of her husband's money, but started loving her in the process. Rita tells Norman she doesn't want to get pregnant again.
Rod tries to cheer up Norman. Connie and Elliot interrogate Jill and Dr. Rossi later tells them he is sure Jill is Kelly's mother. Outside Peyton Place, Steven meets a man and offers him a ride to town. It turns out he is Michael's younger brother Joe.
Joe tells Michael he could no longer stand living with his sister and therefore traveled to Peyton Place. Connie thinks Allison could have been capable of giving up her child to a stranger, but Elliot refuses to believe Jill. Betty criticizes Norman for feeling sorry for himself.
Jill recognizes Joe and nervously visits Steven, urging him to arrange a birth certificate for Kelly. Elliot is mad at Rodney, thinking he might have impregnated Allison once. Ada is mad at Eddie for using his con acts to cheer up Rita. Joe startles Jill and thinks Kelly is their baby.
Rodney denies having known that Allison has a baby. Having received a telegram conforming Kelly is Allison's baby, Connie apologizes to Jill. Rodney, thinking he is the father, demands to have the baby, but Jill has already promised it to the Carsons.
Rodney wants to claim the baby, but Betty doesn't want to have anything to do with it. Eli wonders why Allison trusted Jill. Rod demands a blood test. Joe tells Michael that Kelly is his and Jill's baby.
Rodney wants to be a part of Kelly's life. Michael tells Joe that Dom is looking for him due to a debt. Jill fears Rodney will sue for custody. Betty tells Rodney she will accept Kelly, but not love her. Joe reminds Rita of Joe Chernak.
Norman suggests Joe not to try to be like his brother. Connie tells Betty she won't allow her and Rod to adopt Kelly if Betty feels so negatively about the baby. Eddie questions Rod about Joe Chernak, but Rita tells him why Rod's not the one to ask about it. Norman and Joe are involved in a car accident.
Norman is helped out of the car wreck by Rev. Tom Winter. A severely injured Joe is rushed to the hospital. Rita suffers from traumas of Joe. Steven hints to Rodney he will have to choose between Betty and Kelly. Joe has personal difficulty being treated by his big brother.
Rodney feels Kelly would be better off with him than with the Carsons. Michael recommends that Norman allow Rev. Winter to help Rita recover. Joe is surprised Jill actually gave up the baby. Tom is informed that his wife is in bad shape.
Eddie insists on forcing Joe to leave town so Rita can recover. Betty tells Rodney she wants to move to a barn nearby. Rita tells Norman she did not want to talk to Rev. Winter. Joe confronts Michael with Susan's late night visit to him.
Jill fears Kelly will forget her. Tom refuses to admit that Susan is an alcoholic. Susan shows her discontent of her husband's profession, but Tom refuses to be a part of her father's business. Joe forces himself up to Jill.
Joe confesses to Michael he came to town because he fled from a robbery gone wrong. Ada feels Eddie should leave town. Rodney and Jill grow closer as Jill admits Joe beat her up. Tom thinks Rita still feels she isn't good enough for Norman.
As advised by Tom, Rita decides she can face Joe again. Betty announces her divorce is in its final stage. Jill threatens to go to the police if Joe contacts her one more time. Betty asks Rev. Winter if she can marry Rodney in his church.
Norman can't find Rita. Tom tries to prevent Susan from getting drunk. Jill tells the Carsons to keep Joe away from Kelly. Eddie picks a fight with Joe. The town residents start a search for Rita. Joe spots her going into the place where Joe Chernak molested her and follows her.
Following a confrontation between Joe and Rita, Eddie starts a severe fight with Joe. Rita tells her mother she is no longer afraid of the past. Michael regrets having taken in Joe. Joe tells the Carsons he is Kelly's father.
Michael admits to Elliot he knew about the true parentage of Kelly, after which Elliot breaks off their friendship. Jill admits to Connie she lied about Allison and Kelly. Susan admits to Steven she is lonely. Rev. Winter agrees on marrying Rod and Betty. Susan threatens to use Steven to make her husband jealous.
The Festival reminds Betty of the past. Carolyn discusses her parents' divorce with Joe. Joe tries to kiss her, but Carolyn pushes him away. Susan continues to use Steven to make her husband jealous. Tom announces he will never leave Susan.
Tom and Susan plan a romantic afternoon. Jill applies as Rev. Winter's assistant. Elliot feels the town has become a prison for Connie and offers her to leave. Betty admits she would've hated Kelly had Rodney taken her in.
Carolyn is mad at her mother for having filed for divorce. Connie and Elliot pack their stuff to leave town. Marsha is given a hard time by her daughter. Steven tells Betty he has processed their divorce.
Betty unsuccessfully begs the Carsons to stay until the wedding. Susan questions the existence of God. Carolyn and Joe continue their constant bickering. The Carsons accept Michael's apology, before leaving town.
Much to the upset of their friends, the Carsons have left town. Leslie finds out the Peyton Mill has been sold and that he thus loses his job. Julie visits Peyton Place to attend Betty's wedding. Joe thinks Rev. Winter has hired Jill because of a physical attraction. Steven finds out Hannah has returned to town.
Hannah, on Peyton's orders, advises Steven not to interfere with Betty's love life. Rodney and Betty are married in church. Marsha tells Rev. Winter she will not leave for New York after all. Steven tells Susan he will break up Betty's marriage.
To prove her husband's manhood, Susan offers to take Jill into their home. Now that the Mill has been sold, Norman asks Ada for a job at her tavern. Ada gives Norman and Rita a gift of $50,000 from Peyton which Eddie told her to give them, but Norman won't take it. When Joe stops by for a date, Marsha questions Carolyn about her connection to him.
Carolyn spends a date with Joe to anger her mother, but she refuses to respond to his romantic encounters. Marsha asks Michael to tell Joe to leave Carolyn alone. Jill moves in with the Winters, as do Rodney and Betty in their new barn.
Norman wants to partner with Rodney to open a large motorcycle shop, but Rod is not enthusiastic. Despite some reluctance of Michael, the Russells move into the Carsons' house. Tom suspects Susan is up to a scheme. Joe assures Marsha he will leave Carolyn alone.
Carolyn feels humiliated by Joe, since he dumped her for being too young. Rod and Norman make plans for their motorcycle shop. Susan notices Jill idolizing Tom and calls her a replacement wife. In their last appearance on the show, Connie and Elliott talk to Eli over the phone.
Feeling rejected by Carolyn, Joe forces his way back into Jill's life. Michael asks out Marsha, which angers Carolyn. Susan discusses Tom's attraction to Jill. She later catches Joe forcing himself up to Jill and calls her cheap, before telling her she has to move out.
The tension between Joe and Carolyn grows at a rock concert, as Joe hits Dennis, a friend dancing with Carolyn. Susan overhears a warm conversation between Tom and Jill, in which Tom convinces Jill not to leave town. Mike and Marsha start feeling more attracted to each other.
Carolyn feels that her mother has changed since the divorce. Tom comforts Jill, after she talks to a girl in the hospital who also had an illegitimate child but handled the situation differently. It becomes noticeable that Tom is attracted to Jill. Steven tells Rodney he thinks his business will fail. A drunk Susan falls out of bed.
Jill attempts to help Susan as she has a drunken rage. Carolyn takes an interest in Jeff. Norman tells Rodney that Steven has offered to help their motorcycle shop survive. Marsha shares her view on her ex-husband with Mike. Tom feels guilty about his feelings for Jill.
Joe asks out Carolyn, but she rejects him. Michael takes out Marsha for dinner and they kiss after-wards. Eli tells Jill he misses her and thinks she is still not alright. Carolyn thinks her mother is only pretending not to love Fred anymore.
Jill alarms Michael about Tom's interest in her. Betty makes clear to Steven she wants him out of her life. A welfare worker visits the Winters and decides that Jill's living with them is working fine. During a bike ride, Rodney almost falls off his motorcycle.
Susan tells Tom she does not blame him for his feelings for Jill. Fred thinks it is better for Marsha and Carolyn if he leaves town, but this upsets Carolyn. It becomes clear Marsha is hiding the real reason for divorcing Fred. Tom acts out his anger on Jill.
Jill feels her presence is breaking up Tom and Susan's marriage, but Tom tells her she will lose custody of Kelly if she leaves. Steven finds out Leslie has paid Eddie $50,000 and steals the proof of it, to later confront Ada. Jeff feels Carolyn is using him to get back at Joe. Michael quarrels with Fred over Marsha. Tom slaps Susan.
Tom has found out Susan lied on her reason of absence and feels it is a part of her scheme to break up their marriage. Carolyn tells her mother she understands her divorce and uses Marsha's happiness to allow herself to date anyone she pleases to. Rodney and Norman are involved in a serious motorcycle accident.
Following the motorcycle accident, Rodney is brought to the hospital in critical condition. Dr. Rossi concludes that he has a spinal cord injury. Steven tries to comfort Betty, but she wants him to leave her alone. Norman feels guilty that he is not injured.
Rodney tells Dr. Rossi he can't feel anything. Leslie visits Rod and blames Steven for the accident. Susan again gives Jill a hard time. Tom defends Jill and later kisses her before leaving. Dr. Miles feels Dr. Rossi is taking too much time in such a critical period.
Betty is informed that Rodney is paralyzed. Leslie thinks Steven hit Rodney on purpose and tells him he won't get away with it. Tom admits to Michael that Susan is addicted to alcohol and is advised to send her to a sanitarium. Steven returns Leslie's promissory note for $50,000 for Eddie.
Betty tells Rita they can't show emotions around Rodney. Tom blames Susan for Jill having left the home and then starts a search. Like Betty, Norman blames Steven for the accident. Susan fears losing Tom and admits she needs him.
Tom admits to Michael that he desires Jill. Before leaving town for good, Leslie tells Betty he doesn't approve of her. Marsha tells Michael she doesn't want to slow down their relationship. Jill is secretly staying at Ada's. During his search for Jill, Tom confronts Joe.
Tom tells Jill they are meant for each other, but she wants him to leave her alone. Due to his loss of control he fails to show up to church. Meanwhile, Rodney, who has given up on life, starts feeling again. When Michael is asked to find Jill a home, he suggests her to marry Joe.
Betty tries to be optimistic, but Rodney realizes that his chances on recovering is not a guarantee. Marsha and Carolyn argue over sex. When Mrs. Thomas tells Jill she is taking away the baby from her, Jill flees with Kelly. Steven drops by Rodney for forgiveness, but Rodney orders him to leave.
Betty blames Steven for trying to break up their marriage. Following a drunken rage, Susan is taken into the hospital. Joe is interrogated on Jill's whereabouts. Michael tells Marsha they can't be together unless she feels free, with Carolyn's consent. Jeff suspects that Carolyn is having an affair with Joe.
Tom goes to Boston to resign the ministry, but Reverend Gates won't grand him that. In the hospital, Susan regrets having driven away Tom. Michael tells Steven that Rodney is suffering from mental depression, and therefore forbids him from visiting him. Jill reluctantly hands over Kelly to Mrs. Thomas. Carolyn oversees Michael and Marsha kissing.
Rita wants to help Jill get back Kelly, and wants custody of the baby until she succeeds. Steven advises Jill to reveal her sexual tension with Tom in court to explain why she suddenly ran away. Joe confronts Jill with the outcome of her manipulations on their baby.
Without Susan's co-operation, Steven wants to prove to Judge Chester that Jill was forced to run away due to a sleazy set up by Susan. Chester, however, wants no part of it and gives the custody of Kelly to Norman and Rita. Carolyn tells her mother that she was surprised when she saw her kissing Michael.
Michael offers Jill a job as a nurse at the hospital. Following a quarrel, Carolyn and Jeff grow closer. Joe does not want Norman and Rita raising his daughter. Rodney is assigned to a new therapist, with whom he does not get along.
Mike makes clear to Tom that Jill lost her baby because of him. Shortly after, Tom announces his plans on divorcing Susan. Meanwhile, Norman fears that Betty will turn to Steven for comfort again. Carolyn finds out that her father is dating a young woman, Donna.
When Betty finds out that Norman is suspicious of her meetings with Steven, she gets mad at him for not trusting her. Tom lands a job as a fisherman. Marsha admits that she knew about Donna even before the divorce, and Carolyn thinks that her mother is the cause of the affair. Upon finding out that Tom has filed for divorce, Susan swears on claiming that he had an affair with Jill. Judge Chester reveals that the withdrawal of Jill's custody of Kelly had nothing to do with running out on the Winters.
Despite other claims, Rodney convinces himself that Betty does not want to be with him anymore. Carolyn confronts her father with his affair with Donna, and he is surprised that she is blaming her mother for it. Joe provokes a fight with Tom at the wharf.
Susan threatens to ruin Jill's life if Tom does not take her back. Joe refuses to admit that he still has feelings for Jill. Marsha makes clear to Carolyn that Fred is the cause for her divorce. Betty gets a job at the motorcycle shop. Dr. Miles wants Rodney to find the will to learn to walk again.
Joe realizes how bad his relationship with his daughter is. Steven makes an anonymous donation for Rodney's recovery costs. Due to the conflicts with her daughter, Marsha, feeling trapped, tries to break off her relationship with Michael.
Dr. Rossi is worried that Rodney is now driving himself to exhaustion. Tom refuses to continue his duties as a reverend. Harry's wife Alma suspects that their son does not want to return home. Marsha catches Carolyn and Jeff being intimate, which leads to a lecture about sex.
Harry and Alma's son Lew returns from New York. Jill fears that she has nothing to offer Kelly. Jeff, who believes that she set up their romantic night to get back at her mother, is still mad at Carolyn.
Susan changes the adultery charges to mental cruelty, and kisses Steven afterward. Carolyn interrogates Michael on his intentions with Marsha. Betty is upset to find out that Rodney went outside for the first time since his accident without her. Carolyn becomes jealous of Jeff's interest in singer Nancy.
As Joe is about to leave town, Jill comes in to reconcile with him. Michael feels that he has failed as a brother. Harry finds out that Lew has been cutting class. Rod becomes worried when he sees Betty talking with Steven in the hospital.
Joe and Jill are married and they regain custody of Kelly. Afterwards, they decide to leave town. Lew gets frequent calls from a woman in New York. Jeff tries unsuccessfully to make Carolyn jealous. With Jill gone, Susan reaches out for Tom.
Michael is upset that Rod has quit therapy, and thinks it has something to do with Betty and Steven. Marsha gives Carolyn a hard time over having forgotten a meeting with her. After cutting his hand at work, Tom is taken to the hospital.
When Alma confronts Lew with his strange behavior, he admits that he was moved by the horrible way black people are treated in New York. Steven tries to assure Rod with a hard approach that he is not involved with Betty, but tells him that he will if Rod does not continue his therapy. Afterwards, Rod refuses to see Betty.
Betty goes to Tom for advice on her marriage. Steven admits to Susan that he still loves Betty, and then kisses her. They are interrupted by a phone call from Hannah, who tells Steven that Martin Peyton has died. After a confrontation with Tom, Rod continues his therapy.
The townspeople are informed by Martin Peyton's death. Steven immediately sets his mind on the will. Betty is given a hard time over inheriting his money. Harry fears that Lew will throw away his future career in medicine. Michael sees Carolyn sneaking into Jeff's place.
Marsha fears that Caroyln is having sex with Jeff and is upset that Michael advises her not to interfere. Steven and Susan continue their affair. Lew discusses his racial identity struggle with Michael. Carolyn admits to her mother that she's still seeing Jeff, but that she is not sleeping with him.
Betty urges Rodney not to let Steven harm their marriage anymore. Lew withdraws from a school project. Carolyn is afraid to tell Marsha how serious her relationship with Jeff is, until Jeff upsets her. While Rod starts to regain feeling in his foot, Betty enjoys the heritage from Peyton. Marsha begs Fred to talk to Carolyn about her relationship with Jeff.
Betty shows her newly acquired power by arranging Peyton's funeral, which enrages Hannah. Fred talks to Carolyn about her relationship with Jeff. Harry gets mad at Lew for his constant racial remarks. Susan wants to conspire with Steven to hurt Betty.
After interrogating him on his relationship with Carolyn, Fred orders Jeff to stay away from his daughter. Norman is mad that Betty took Peyton's portrait of her and confronts Steven with it. Fred blames Marsha for Carolyn's rebellious behavior, and demands custody.
Lew poses as his father to make a phone call to New York. He asks about a comatose patient, E.J. Cunningham. Worried about losing custody, Marsha turns to Mike for advice. He, in turn, proposes to her. Jeff offers Carolyn for both to date other people. Norman admits to Rita that he thinks Betty is wrong for Rod.
Marsha tries to win over Carolyn's love. Harry is worried about the long distance call on his name. Following their fight over Betty, Rita leaves the apartment to stay at Ada's. Carolyn tells her father that she wants to live with him, until she finds him with Donna.
Carolyn returns from Boston and stays at her friend Pat. Rod prepares to leave the hospital. Norman continues to bicker with Betty over her portrait. Betty shows interest in buying the Peyton mansion from Steven.
Rod returns home. Rita refuses to go back to Norman until he agrees not to interfere with Betty and Rod. Michael convinces Marsha to not let Carolyn get in the way of her feelings. She listens and accepts his marriage proposal.
Michael and Marsha visit the Miles family for dinner. Susan tells Betty that she intends to live in the Peyton mansion after she marries Steven. Lew's girlfriend Joanne fears that he cheated on her in New York.
Harry finds out that Lew is making phone calls to a New York girl, but Lew refuses to speak about it. Meanwhile, Norman agrees to let Betty and Rod alone. Jeff becomes jealous when he sees Carolyn dancing with Dennis. Sgt. Walker is upset with how Lew treats Joanne.
Betty offers a high prize to buy the Peyton mansion, but Steven believes she is only interested in it to get in his way. Fred apologizes to Marsha for his past behavior and suggests that he wants to save their marriage.
