Jack orders Rachel to not ever tell anyone about his connection to Allison. Hannah packs to leave town and tells Martin Peyton that she doesn't have a definite destination to go to. Elliot is against Rachel moving in with them, feeling that Connie sees as her as a replacement for Allison. Hannah assures to Betty that Steven's obsession with Peyton is greater than his love for her and advices her to always stand by Steven no matter what. Peyton tells Norman that he has to accept that his mother was a morally corrupt woman. Lee warns Rodney not to see Sandy anymore.
Hannah comes to Steven to say goodbye to him, but he takes this opportunity to find out if she were lying about having seen Lee killing Ann. Norman notices that Rachel is a very quick learner. Steven and Betty arrive at the Peyton mansion, noticing that it is on fire. Steven doesn't hesitate and goes in, saving Peyton's life. When Rachel hears the sirens, she gets extremely scared, confiding in Rodney that is because her parents died at a fire. In the hospital, it is revealed that Peyton is in critical condition. Betty confronts Steven with his obsession with Peyton.
While still in critical condition, Peyton asks Steven what he wants in return for saving his life. Rachel is reluctant to move into the Carson home, because she knows that Elliot isn't fond of her. Lee still is angry about Sandy's short lived affair with Rodney. Rodney tells Rachel that she is acting as a spoiled brat, because she is mad at Michael for going on vacation. Rachel tells him that she refuses to live with the Carsons, thinking that it is a charity act, but Rodney forces her to do otherwise. At the Peyton mansion, Steven announces that he wants to move in.
Rachel moves into the Carson home and adjusts to being Matthew's babysitter. Lee promises Sandy that he will make her want him back. She turns to Rodney, but he asks her to stay away from him. Lee tries to visit Martin Peyton, but is stopped by Steven, who tells him that he hates him.
The tension between Chris and Lee grows. Leslie tells Rodney that Steven having saved Martin could work against him and advices him to do anything to stop Steven from gaining power. Martin offers Betty to decorate the mansion, which is in repair. Rita thinks of arranging a date between Rod and Rachel. Chris secretly steals Ada's gun.
Chris is intending to use the gun to kill Lee. Lee announces he got a job at a fisher's boat. Before Chris is able to shoot him, Sandy comes in, which stops Chris. Meanwhile, Steven announces to Peyton that he will move in with him. The chemistry between Rod and Rachel grows while having dinner at Rita's. Lee and Norman get into a fight at Ada's tavern. Later outside, Chris again attempts to shoot Lee, but he is interrupted by Norman.
Norman misinterprets that Lee was going to attack Chris and takes Chris to his house. Rodney takes Rachel home and is spotted by Jack. Connie admits that she has accepted that Allison has left town. Rodney announces that he is moving out of the Peyton mansion. Jack calls Leslie's office, leaving a message that he is an old friend.
Rita advices Norman not to interfere with Chris and Lee. Rodney doesn't understand why Steven and Betty want to live with Martin Peyton. Ada finds out that her gun is missing. Peyton questions Steven if he should sue Hannah, but he responds that he doesn't care.
Steven thinks Lee has stolen Ada's gun, unaware that Chris did it. Jack tries to convince Rachel that Elliot and Connie only took her in the house to get more information about Allison. He later announces that he is moving to Peyton Place, and claims that he only has the best intentions for Rachel.
When Rodney announces that he is moving into a garage, Lee gives him a hard time, even vandalizing his place. Lee later attacks Chris, because he tried to stop him when he was harassing Sandy. Meanwhile, Rachel is receiving scary phone calls from Jack. When she admits this to Rodney, he kisses her, shortly before visiting Jack. When he demands that Jack leave Rachel alone, Jack doesn't take him seriously.
Sandy realizes that she can't be with her husband any longer and tries to convince Chris to leave town with her. He promises he will leave with her, but insists on stopping at home alone first. Meanwhile, Peyton admits to Betty that he wouldn't have allowed Steven to move into his mansion if it weren't for her. Chris finds Ada's gun and sets a trap for Lee, unaware that Lee has already found the gun. Ada tells Steven that she is certain that Chris took her gun. Lee phones Steven and lies that Chris is threatening to kill himself.
Chris, thinking it is Lee coming in the house, attempts to shoot Steven. When the police arrive, Steven lies that the gun went off by accident. Meanwhile, Connie wants Michael to return to Peyton Place. Norman is annoyed by Rita's attempts to force him to study and admits that he doesn't know what he wants with his future. Peyton announces that Thomas will be replaced and wants a portrait of Betty to hang in the mansion. Elliot finds out that Rachel is lying about talking to Chandler. Rodney stops by Sandy and kisses her.
Norman wonders why Ada never told him she knows Chandler. Lee notices an advertisement in the paper to be Peyton's chauffeur. Rachel admits to Rita that she found Allison's bracelet in Chandler's car and plans on leaving Peyton Place for holding the information from the Carsons. Rachel tries to run away from Chandler, but he refuses to let her go. She struggles and finally hit him in the head with a candle stick and is driven back to Peyton Place by Mr. Burrows. Meanwhile, Elliot has come to the farmhouse as well to look for Rachel. Rachel announces to Michael that she will leave Peyton Place and lies about her motives. Rodney takes Sandy out on a date.
Elliot invites Rachel back home. She initially refuses to, but accepts his offer when he apologizes. He later asks Leslie for Chandler's personnel file. Rita tries to convince Rachel to tell Elliot about having run into Chandler at the farmhouse.
Rachel realizes Chandler is still alive, when he walks by the bookstore in Peyton Place. Steven isn't glad with Lee serving as Peyton's chauffeur. Leslie tries to fire Chandler, but Chandler blackmails him with an illegal deal they made twenty years ago.
Peyton meets with his Boston attorney Kennerly to change his will. Lee is upset to see Rodney and Sandy out on a date. Norman refuses a loan from Leslie. Chandler claims that he loves Rachel and that she misunderstood about his intentions.
Chandler steals Rachel's puppy. Elliot thinks Chandler has an obsession for Rachel. Rodney feels that Peyton is trying to point out that Steven is now, in his eyes, the better grandson. Lee harasses Sandy for dating Rodney, but Rodney saves her by knocking down Lee. Even though their date didn't go as planned, Rodney and Sandy kiss each other at the end of the night.

She isn't able to go forward with it and considers telling Steven the truth, but she doesn't have the courage. Meanwhile, Rita fears she is going to die, but Dr. Rossi tries to reassure her that she can be cured if she takes a lot of rest.
Betty tells Peyton about her doubts concerning if she is suited for a high class life. Eli finds out an unknown person has been living with Chandler at his farmhouse. Steven finds out Betty has been meeting Leslie. Connie confronts Elliot with trying to justify everything he does wrong by mentioning Allison. Betty steals the will and is caught by Lee.
Betty reads in Peyton's will that his entire estate will go to her after his death, but only if she marries Rodney. When Leslie finds out about this, he tries to convince Betty to marry Rod. Elliot finds out Rachel's buckle belt was made in a Texas prison in 1956, where a man named Jack Forrest was spending time for criminal assault. Michael brings home Rachel and is questioned by Connie if he wants to be in a relationship with Rachel.
Steven questions Betty about her whereabouts around the time she stole the will and she lies about it. Rita is in the hospital getting an EKG. It is revealed that Lee told Steven about his wife's actions in order of Peyton, who knew about the theft. Ada tries to prevent Elliot from doing something to Chandler he will regret.

Elliot hits Chandler unconscious. Later, Chandler charges him with assault. Betty announces to Peyton that she will battle him to change back his will. Steven tells Elliot that if proven guilty, Elliot could be sent to jail for 1 to 12 years.
Rachel feels that it is her fault if Elliot goes to prison. Elliot tells Eli he doesn't regret beating up Chandler. Lee tries to convince Sandy to go back to him and kisses her. Rachel visits Chandler in the hospital and suggests him to leave the country. He threatens to destroy the Carsons.
Rachel tells Connie that Chandler will eventually destroy everyone and that he must be stopped. Chandler threatens to talk about Dr. Rossi and Rachel's so-called relationship if he works against him. Ada confirms to Leslie that Chandler's real name is Jack Forrest. Rodney asks Peyton for financial support for Norman, so he can pay Rita's medical care.
Rodney feels Betty is becoming Peyton's pet. Chandler reminds Leslie that he hired him 20 years ago to kill his wife. Michael suggests Elliot to send Rachel to a boarding school. Peyton asks Leslie to help him break up Steven and Betty's marriage and convince Betty to remarry Rod.
Norman refuses Rodney's money. Chandler has backed off from the charges, but Elliot wants to press the case. Leslie pretends not to know anything about Chandler. Michael suggests Rachel to leave town for a while, which makes her think she is unwanted. Lee encourages Chandler to beat up Michael.
Steven receives a confidential letter and immediately leaves for New York. During an argument, Rachel tells Michael she loves him and she kisses him after wards. Eli warns Elliot that Chandler is about to leave town. Steven was supposed to file a warrant against Chandler, but much to Elliot's anger, he hasn't.
Michael tells Rachel they can never have a relationship. Rachel is mad at Michael for him treating her as if she was any other girl. Elliot is upset that Chandler has been released from prison. Martin is throwing a party for Steven's 28th birthday and notices Betty isn't present. As a present to Steven, Betty's painting is revealed.
Steven demands to find out who has written a blame report to him about Betty's theft and turns the letter to the newspaper. This much to Rodney's disgust, who advises Betty to leave Steven. Steven later confronts Betty with her past in New York.
Betty admits to having stolen Peyton's will and explains to Steven that she has to divorce him and marry Rodney if she wants to inherit Peyton's money. Later, Steven tries to prevent Elliot from printing the Blaine report. Meanwhile, Rita confronts Mike with having kissed Rachel. Rodney finds out about Peyton's will conditions.
Rodney is furious at Peyton and tries to avoid him. Elliot and Connie arrange a police offer to protect Rachel from Chandler. Rodney admits to Rachel he wishes Michael would stay away from her. Betty attempts to reconcile with Steven. Steven announces that he is planning on destroying Peyton by trying to prove he is incompetent.
Steven claims Peyton announced he wants to move Catherine's grave. Lee lies to the police about not knowing where Chandler is. Despite her claim she is in love with him, Rodney breaks off his relationship with Sandy. Lee suggests Chandler to flee town.
Peyton offers Sandy $2,000 to leave town the same night, but she angrily rejects his offer. Rodney confronts Michael with his over-protectiveness of Rachel. Steven wants to include Norman in his plan to destroy Peyton. Sandy announces she is leaving town for California and reveals to Steven and Betty it is because of Peyton. Outside Peyton High, Chandler kidnaps Rachel.
Rodney discourages Norman from siding with Steven. Lee blames Peyton for scaring Sandy away. Rachel unsuccessfully attempts to run away from Chandler. After knocking him in the head, Rachel is taken captive at her old farm.
Chandler claims that Rachel set the house on fire, killing her parents, but Rachel insists it was an accident. He furthermore reveals that Allison told him she saw Rachel killing her aunt Lucy. Rachel admits to having hated Lucy, but again insists it was an accident. Meanwhile, Peyton confronts Betty with having tried to manipulate him about his daughter's grave. Rachel pretends to willingly go with Chandler and then escapes to return home. Lee denies having taken in Chandler. Back home, Rachel gives a false statement about how she escaped from Chandler.
Aware that Chandler is still on the loose, the Carson house remains restless. Rachel considers telling Connie about her information on Allison, but is too afraid. Meanwhile, Betty thinks Peyton is buying her expensive jewelry and rejects it, but Peyton tells her it's for another "lovely young lady".
Chandler attempts to check into a motel, but is recognized by the manager and reported to the police. Elliot and Connie find out Rachel gave them a false statement. Rodney orders Steven to let him and Norman alone concerning Peyton's will. Leslie tries to keep the Chandler case out of the press. Connie confronts Rachel with withholding information about Chandler.
Because the Carsons have lost their trust in Rachel, Michael is being contacted to talk to her, but he isn't able to get through her. When Peyton announces he is leaving for Boston, Steven decides to follow him. Rachel, distressed by being denounced, takes Matthew and runs away.
Elliot thinks Chandler and Rachel both kidnapped Matthew. Betty cheats on her husband by kissing Rodney. Steven reveals he has seen Peyton secretly meeting a young woman. Rachel calls the Carson home and lies about being abducted.
Rachel leaves Matthew at the hospital, leaving a letter in which she lies that Chandler, while holding her captive, allowed her to drop off Matthew. Chandler is arrested by the police. Elliot thinks Rachel is fully responsible for Matthew's disappearance. Eli thinks that Rachel took Matthew only to return him and receive gratitude.
Rachel has lost her mind and thinks she is Allison. Michael explains she is doing this because she knows Rachel isn't worthy of the Carsons' love, unlike Allison. It is revealed that Rachel accidentally killed her aunt and kept her interference with Allison, who witnessed this, a secret because she knew she had to admit to the killing if she revealed she saw Allison. Rodney sees Rachel one more time and Rita is upset that her friend has to leave. Steven asks Dr. Rossi to become Peyton's doctor again, but he is too upset by Rachel's leaving. Chandler tries to blackmail Leslie into bailing him out. Norman asks Connie to let Rita become Matthew's new babysitter, but Connie, not trusting anyone anymore, rejects it. Leslie refuses to give Norman a job through Rod. Peyton's guest, the sophisticated Adrienne Van Leyden, arrives in town.
Steven and Betty don't trust the arrival of widowed Adrienne Van Leyden. Chandler tells Lee he wants Steven as his lawyer. Rita has breathing problems and is taken to the hospital. It turns out she is pregnant, but due to her weakened heart, the possibility of a miscarriage is very big and she may not even survive the pregnancy. Disturbed, Norman goes to a park bench, where he notices his father giving a gun through the cell bars to Chandler.
Chandler uses a gun to escape from jail. Unlike Norman, Rita is delighted to find out she is pregnant. Adrienne tells Martin she thinks Steven is too hostile for their plan. Norman blackmails Leslie into giving him a job. Steven tries to find out why Adrienne has come to Peyton Place.
Betty admits she feels threatened by Adrienne's presence, but Steven assures her he has no special interest in the woman. Connie apologizes for her outburst to Norman. Mike is startled when he finds out Adrienne has arrived in town, claiming she destroyed her late husband.
Adrienne slaps Michael and claims he is only bitter because of his hero worship of Dr. Van Leyden. Elliot tries to force Lee into telling him about Chandler. Adrienne announces to Steven she wants to sue Michael for slander, but he discourages her to. In a conversation with Peyton, Lee links Chandler's escape to Leslie.
Ada suspects Rita isn't happy. Peyton questions Leslie about why he hired Chandler and threatens to disinherit him. Elliot tries to find out who slipped Chandler the gun, but Ada orders him to quit his man-hunts. Betty questions Steven as to whether he feels attracted to Adrienne, but he calls Adrienne a useless person.
The gun which Chandler used to escape arrives at the Clarion by mail. Rod suggests to Norman to move, but Rita refuses to. When Leslie finds out he is a suspect for having given Chandler the gun, he calls for his security chief Stan Howard. Adrienne announces she wants to withdraw from Peyton's plan, but Peyton blackmails her into staying, announcing she is in Peyton Place to destroy Steven and Betty's marriage. He claims to have the letter her husband Philip sent him shortly before his death, which she would not want publicized.
Betty is angry at Steven for his meetings with Adrienne, but when she sees her standing, Betty kisses Steven to make Adrienne jealous. Later, Lee starts flirting with Adrienne, and Steven reacts over-protectedly. Betty blames Peyton for trying to break up her marriage.
Norman admits to Rodney that Leslie helped Chandler escape. Peyton and Adrienne set out to Boston to include Adrienne in his will. Ada's estranged husband Eddie Jacks returns to Peyton Place and insists on meeting Rita, much to Ada's distress.
Steven announces he has subpoenaed Peyton's will. Peyton announces he is engaged to Adrienne. Adrienne later questions him about this scheme. Betty confronts Steven with his attraction to Adrienne and his jealousy about her engagement. Rodney threatens to go to the police with his information about Leslie, until he finds out Chandler has been shot down by the police in Georgia.
Eddie announces he has come to town to get in touch with Rita. Adrienne tries to make Betty jealous by saying that she noticed Steven's attraction to her. Elliot realizes Chandler's death end his hope of ever finding out what happened to Allison. Betty announces she wants to leave Peyton Place.
Eddie gets a job at the Clarion and reveals to Elliot that he has been in prison for five years. Leslie tries to convince Ada to drive Eddie out of town. Adrienne sets out to the beach to seduce Steven. They are seen kissing by Rita.
Rita is shocked and enraged to meet her father. She later admits to Rodney she saw Steven kissing another woman. Lee tells Peyton he saw the same, but promises to keep silent. Rita is mad at Ada for having lied about her regarding her father's presence in town.
Steven assures Adrienne they will never have an affair, but they end up kissing again. Rita is still quarreling with her mother. Peyton confronts Adrienne with falling in love with Steven and threatens to expose her if she runs off with him. Elliot wants Connie to hire Eddie. Lee reveals to Betty that Steven and Adrienne kissed.
Eddie tells Leslie about Adrienne's past as a party girl and announces he wants to be his business partner. Leslie thinks Adrienne will inherit all of Peyton's money. Betty admits to Rodney she fears losing Steven to Adrienne.
Rod confronts Steven with having kissed Adrienne, but he denies the whole thing. Rod later advises Betty to leave Steven. Meanwhile, Rita decides she wants to meet her father again, but Eddie ends up trying to set her against her mother. Steven still acts cold against Adrienne, and orders her to stay away from him, aware that he can't stop kissing her.
Norman demands that Eddie leave Rita alone. Michael reveals that shortly before Philip allegedly committed suicide, he told a doctor he was looking forward to life. Peyton attempts to encourage Betty to be suspicious of her husband's loyalty. Eddie offers to leave town, but manipulates Rita into making him stay.
Steven secretly meets Adrienne in Boston. Rodney refuses to interfere with Betty's life. Peyton accuses Lee of having told Rodney about Steven's affair. Ada tries to convince Elliot to drive Eddie out of town. Betty has followed Steven to Boston and spots him with Adrienne.
To reconcile with her daughter, Ada reluctantly hires Eddie as a bartender. Adrienne tells Peyton she was aware that she was being watched in Boston by Betty. Eddie confirms that Leslie and Chandler have met in the past, but refuses to answer any of Elliot's further questions.
Rodney tries to discourage Betty from suspecting her husband of cheating. Adrienne is disgusted that Peyton wants to stick to their original plan, despite risking a scandal. Betty confronts her husband with his adultery. He initially denies the accusation, but eventually admits to everything.
Betty walks out on her marriage and leaves the Peyton mansion. Eddie wonders why Elliot is suddenly suspicious of him. Forced by Steven, Adrienne comes to tell Betty nothing has happened between Steven and her, but soon admits to the truth.
Betty refuses to speak Steven and announces to Peyton that there will be no reconciliation. She later announces to Rod she is going to see a lawyer regarding her marriage. Meanwhile, Elliot notices a mysterious meeting between Eddie and Leslie.
Elliot thinks there is a connection between Eddie and Chandler. Michael tells Connie he's visited Rachel and that she's improving. Steven blames Peyton for Adrienne's presence being part of a scheme and claims his affair with Adrienne was a part of ruining his marriage. Rita confronts Ada with her jealous behavior.

Rita thinks Norman thinks badly of Eddie because he still hasn't accepted her past. After failing to seduce him, Adrienne tells Steven she told Betty that they were lovers.
Eddie blames Ada of bad parenting, which she blames on his absence. She tells him about Rita and Joe Chernak. Leslie wants Eddie to reveal information on Adrienne's wild past, so Peyton will break off the engagement. Adrienne schemes Peyton into promising to marry her as a formality of financial support.
When Steven accuses him of knowing of Peyton's use of Adrienne to break up him and Betty, Rodney hits him. The next day, Eddie tells Steven about Adrienne's past. Rodney takes Betty to the woods and kisses her.
Betty is startled by Rod's kiss, unwilling to be involved with him again. She is next visited by Steven, and tells him she doesn't believe him any longer. Rod tells Rita she shouldn't push Norman into returning to college. Peyton thinks Eddie returned to Peyton Place to swindle him. He next advises Betty to change the grounds for divorce from adultery to mental cruelty, explaining it will hurry the process.
Norman blames Eddie for having returned to Peyton Place to profit from his daughter's marriage into a wealthy family and Eddie eventually hits him. Peyton thinks Eddie will turn Norman and Rita against him and offers Norman to pay for Rita's medical bills in order to prevent this from happening. Steven oversees Rodney and Betty driving off.
Steven sues Peyton for incompetency. He forces Betty to attend the hearing. Peyton tells his lawyer Kennerly that Adrienne will never become his wife. At the stand, Adrienne denies having been hired to break up Steven and Betty's marriage. Judge Chester dismisses the case.
Leslie offers Eddie money to leave him alone. Adrienne feels ashamed that her past is now public information and blames Peyton for it. Connie and Elliot return from visiting Rachel. Eddie swindles Leslie into giving him $50,000 and making him his business partner. Leslie orders him to kill Peyton.
Steven is again successfully seduced by Adrienne. Eddie prepares himself for killing Peyton. Leslie tells Eddie to try to get information from Lee, as Peyton tells Lee to do the same with Eddie. Norman visits Dr. Rossi about his cracked ribs caused by Eddie. Betty starts to doubt Adrienne's claims on Steven.
Eli tells Rita she has to choose between Norman and Eddie. Adrienne tells Steven she loves him and they kiss. Betty gives in to Rodney and they kiss. Lee reports to Peyton that he sees through Eddie's attempts to turn him against Peyton. Later, Peyton almost falls down the stairs and Steven does nothing to help him.
Steven admits to Adrienne he considered pushing Peyton off the stairs. Lee continues pretending not to know what Eddie is up to. Dr. Rossi tells Peyton his body is deteriorating. Leslie puts pressure on Eddie to kill Peyton.
Steven tells Adrienne it will never work out between them. Peyton threatens to break off the engagement if Adrienne keeps seeing Steven. Norman realizes he wants to have a baby. Eddie tells Leslie he can convince Lee to kill Peyton. Adrienne breaks into Peyton's personal files, but she is caught by Peyton.
Peyton reveals to Adrienne that Dr. Van Leyden killed himself because she made him lose his dignity. The next day, Peyton is almost hit by a motorcycle driver. Lee saves him, but he is fired moments later on insistence of Adrienne. Adrienne wonders why she drove her husband to suicide.
Eddie realizes he must kill Peyton before he marries Adrienne the next day. Adrienne notices everyone disapproves of her marriage to Peyton and she begs Connie to attend the wedding. Betty visits the Peyton mansion to sign a property settlement arranged by Kennerly. Leslie notices Kennerly and fears he has come back to change Peyton's will.
Eddie pretends to be sick to provide himself an alibi on the night he is supposed to kill Peyton. Peyton tells Adrienne he plans on moving to the apartment where Philip killed himself. Adrienne is fed up with Lee's presence. Betty wants Rod to leave her alone.
Rita notices that Eddie has left the apartment at night. Peyton tells Lee he intends on ruining Adrienne. Adrienne tells Betty nothing happened between she and Steven. Following a confrontation, Adrienne attempts to hit Betty but accidentally plunges to death. Outside, Eddie sees Betty running away from the mansion.
Martin and Lee catch Eddie standing over Adrienne's body and suspect him of having killed her. Rita is worried about Eddie and breaks down. While in jail as a suspect for murder, Eddie tells Steven that he saw his wife leaving the mansion. Dr. Rossi fears the condition of Rita's baby.
Rita is hospitalized. Dr. Rossi tells Norman she can't find out about Eddie's situation. Peyton tells Lee he thinks Eddie came to the mansion to kill Peyton by contract, not Adrienne. Betty tells Steven she was just wandering around at the time Adrienne died and doesn't tell him she was at Peyton's house.
In jail, Eddie admits to Peyton he was ordered by Lelsie to kill him. Betty insists to Elliot that Eddie is innocent. Rita finds out her father is in jail for murder suspicion. Norman threatens Eddie he will get hurt if something happens to Rita or the baby.
Norman asks his father to bail out Eddie. Eddie is arraigned. He lies to Rita that he went to the Peyton mansion to talk to Peyton about Rita's condition. Peyton tells Betty he is aware she was in the home when Adrienne died, but recognizes her death as an accident and advises Betty to deny everything when blamed.
Peyton is in possession of the note which proves that Leslie ordered Eddie to kill him. He announces to Leslie he is leaving Peyton Place and lures him to his office by offering him the mill. Rod finds out a dark-haired girl visited Adrienne shortly before her death. Peyton orders Lee to kill Leslie.
