Did You Know?

Trivia

Natalie Schafer said she initially did Gilligan's Island: Marooned (1992), for the free trip to Hawaii. Afterwards, Schafer was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on holiday when she got a telegram from the States. She read it and burst into tears. Everyone had thought Schafer's mother (who was ill at the time) had died, and offered their condolences, but Schafer had said no she didn't die, the reason she was crying was because the pilot for "Gilligan's Island" sold, and she had to stay in Los Angeles, and could not move back to New York City. Goofs

On a number of occasions, the castaways encounter people, whether other castaways or fugitives in hiding, who have been on the island for 10 years or more, prior to the arrival of the Minnow. All these characters regard themselves each as being the only person on the island. How big is this island that all these people could exist there so long and never know about each other? See more »

Quotes

Gilligan: Skipper, are you asleep?
Skipper Jonas Grumby: [sarcastically] Yes.
Gilligan: Oh, well when you wake up will you tell me if you've seen my rabbit's foot?

Crazy Credits

During the first season's opening credits, for some reason neither The Professor, Russell Johnson nor Mary Ann Dawn Wells received an on screen billing, nor were they referred to in the theme song. They were just referred to as "... and the rest." For seasons two and three they were added at the request of Bob Denver, who played "Gilligan" and thought it was stupid to leave out the two actors just to shorten the introductory song by a few notes. A True Classic
29 March 2003 | by (Los Angeles, California) – See all my reviews

This has got to be one of the campiest shows of all time. When you look at all this show you see a stereotype of the different types of people who make up our society. You have the working guys (Skipper and Gilligan), the intellectual (the Professor), the sex pot (Ginger), the sweet girl (Mary-Ann) and the upper crust capitalists (the Howells). Too bad this show didn't last another season. I would have loved to have seen them do a series finale instead of the horrid reunion movies. Maybe if they did it that way we could have gotten another season where Mr. Howell builds a resort on the island and Gilligan was the jack of all trades that really kept things rolling.

Also, the biggest question of all, Ginger or Mary-Ann?
