One of the top ten Spanish films
24 November 2012 | by See all my reviews

"El Mundo sigue" is a drama that reflects the poverty and misery in which they lived the Spanish in the late 50s and early 60s. It manages to portray a realistic portrait of pathetic but society at the time. Adultery, envy, greed, violence, hunger and abuse of women are just some of the themes in the film, and reflect, at all times, this injustice in a world without mercy. And such is the rawness of the film, after seeing it, the viewer understands the appointment of Fray Luis de Granada's book "Guide sinners", the director shows in the first scene: "see mistreated the innocent, the guilty forguiven , underrated the good, The bad honoured and sublimated; see killed the poor and humble. More power and all business that under the favor "...

Fernan-Gomez did not hesitate to denounce everything, even against the world of film, theater, literature and media, in a script that takes the action and the actors always where he wants, with ease and with sensational dialogues. The address, how could it be otherwise when speaking of the "genius" Fernando Fernán Gómez, is outstanding, a stunning realism, sometimes almost like a documentary of the time, but with very advanced cinematic resources like " voice-over "and the surprising and unexpected use of" flashbacks ". Also noteworthy is the mounting risky. Lots of memorable scenes and plans that I see remind noir cinema film.

The master F.F. Gomez makes a masterpiece of Spanish cinema. In the Madrid of the early 60s, two sisters, "Elo" (Lina Canalejas), poor and married to a compulsive gambler and lazy waiter "Faustino"(Fernando Fernán Gómez), and "Luisa" (Gemma Cuervo), rich to prostitution) fill the screen with their fratricidal hatred and envy spiral and personal differences, giving a chilling portrait of the Spain changing, where abuse, adultery, resentment and anger were common pastime

"El mundo sigue," is a poignant masterpiece from one of the most important actors-directors of Spanish cinema history, a country that reflected here blackened by the misfortunes, money and envy. With few players in its maximum state of grace, Fernan-Gomez resolves a multi-faceted story, a puzzle of human behaviour that results in a testimony to frame in top film schools.

The film has a cast of anthology, especially Lina Canalejas in the character of the selfless and poor sister, Gemma Cuervo and her role in disturbing as a high-end prostitute, without falling behind wonderful actors as Agustín González, Milagros Leal, José Morales, José Calvo, Fernando Guillén María Luisa Ponte, Pilar Barden, José María Cafarell ...

In short, "El mundo sigue" is a powerful film that I consider the top ten Spanish films of all time that all Spanish movie lovers should see.

Anecdotally I can say that I've seen restored copy, not the original opening credits and missing the opening scene with which it is seen that the whole film is a "flashback"
