Jeffrey Hunter perfect as ebullient clever frontier lawyer
18 April 2017 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"The Man from Galveston" (1963) was a TV-pilot and it shows, but it doesn't matter at all because the movie is so well done. Jeffrey Hunter plays a frontier lawyer modeled patterned after the real world Temple Houston. He's extremely clever and quick. The top-notch script is bright and clever all the way. Preston Foster is a circuit court judge. He's direct and blunt. James Coburn adds his deep voice, charm, and flinty-eyed stares as a shady lawman. A bevy of saloon girls is led by Grace Lee Whitney. Joanna Moore has a substantial role. There's support from such as Edward Andrews, Ed Nelson, Karl Swenson and Kevin Hagen. The story, at first introducing characters in varied situations, becomes a mystery after awhile, leaving room for Hunter to sleuth it out. William Conrad directed. From "The Killers" (1946) to "Jake and the Fatman" (1987-1992), Conrad made a quality mark in several facets of the movie business.
