News Nuggets: Will it be Jennifer Lawrence or Lupita Nyong'o winning the Oscar?

17 February 2014 4:07 PM, PST | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

Michael Hogan and Christopher Rosen backtrack somewhat on their recent comments that this Oscar season is "boring," especially regarding the race for Best Supporting Actress. They believe it is a dead-heat between Jennifer Lawrence ("American Hustle") and Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave"). Lawrence now has the BAFTA "upset" and the Golden Globe. Nyong'o won the SAG and Critic's Choice. With Lawrence "basically gone into hiding" in recent weeks, her anti-campaign might be helping her more than expected. Vanity Fair. Sasha Stone asks if there has "ever been a year like this one where one movie keeps winning Best Picture but not Best Director." That certainly seems to be the case with "12 Years a Slave" and Alfonso Cuaron for "Gravity." 2014 Oscar Predictions: Best Documentary Feature

15 February 2014 5:36 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions for the 86th Academy Awards through March 2nd, when the winners are announced. For the second time, all Academy members are sent screeners of all the docs and can all vote in the category (as opposed to a select group, in previous years), which does suggest that this might go to the populist choice, as it did with Malik Bendjelloul's "Searching For Sugar Man" last year. That choice is surely Morgan Neville's backup singer film "20 Feet From Stardom," which is the only box office hit among the five nominees, and definitely the one with the most mainstream appeal. However, the only major doc precursor it won was the Critic's Choice Award. Alex Gibney's "We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks" and Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell" won the PGA and WGA, respectively, but they aren't even nominated here. »

17 January 2014 11:21 AM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

We can't decide what's crazier: that Amy Adams' 2014 Critic's Choice Awards dress is so wildly similar to Jennifer Lawrence's 2012 SAG Awards attire, or that we noticed the copy! No, Amy's lipstick pink Roland Mouret isn't identical to JLaw's Barbie car Oscar de la Renta, but we bet they're way too close for her stylist's comfort... Right off the bat, we're giving the superior shade award to Amy. Her paler pink is less intense than the Hunger Games star's high school girl hue. In terms of design, »
