All's fare in love and war.

This time around, Gerald Thomas directs the gang (pretty much all present and correct with the exceptions of Joan Sims and Kenneth Williams) in a farcical tale about a dedicated cab driver (Sid James) who spends so much more time driving than with his wife (Hattie Jacques) that she decides to protest by secretly starting up a competing, female cabby business known as Glamcabs.

While the film doesn't fizzle and provide as many laughs as some later entries it's got a raft of witty one-liners and an enjoyably chucklesome battle of the sexes taking centre stage in the second half.

James is great, as is Jacques, and we also have Charles Hawtrey, Kenneth Connor, Liz Fraser, a VERY youthful Jim Dale and the wonderful Esma Cannon on hand yet again to provide some laughs. Amanda Barrie has a fun time, though she would be more memorable in the magnificent Carry On Cleo later in the series.

Fans of Williams will no doubt miss his inimitable style but it must be said that the movie doesn't really suffer thanks to the fun storyline and the pleasant company we tag along with.

See this if you like: Carry On Regardless, Carry On Constable, Carry On At Your Convenience.
