charismatic woman leads young man on a whirlwind affair toward death
This is one of the more obscure masterworks of the French New Wave and is, I suspect, unavailable in America. It is a hauntingly tragic love story full of the bittersweet joie de vivre that is the trademark of Demy's work. Moreau is charismatic and enigmatic and has a siren like quality of foretold doom. If you can find it anywhere, get it.
