Only contract characters appear in the opening. The opening is rather expensive to edit, so don't expect new characters to appear right away or for departed characters to disappear right away.

Soap operas choose to age children for storyline purposes. One day a child could be 10 and the next day they could be 17. It's called Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (SORAS). They do this very frequently so it shouldn't come as too much of a shock and it's just business as usual on a soap opera.

Here's some ideas of how old the kids/teens should be -- this is the year they were born:

Lucas: 1989; Maxie: 1990; Dillon: 1992; Lulu: 1994; Georgie: 1995; Michael: 1997; Kristina: 2002; Morgan: 2003; Cameron: 2004; Molly: 2005; Spencer: 2006; Lila Rae: 2006; Jake: 2007

The web site below lists the current cast members. They are divided by whether they are contract players or recurring characters. Please note that this list may be a little behind on the current cast changes.

The following is a list of web sites that post spoilers/rumors about General Hospital. Please note that these sites are not always 100% accurate and the information is subject to change.

General Hospital Happenings -- This is a popular site that has been around for 10 years. Accurate spoilers with pictures of upcoming episodes. Interesting, but separate, rumor page. They also provide casting news, industry tidbits, history, videos, a forum, etc. http://www.generalhospitalhappenings.com

SoapZone -- This is a great site -- if there is information about GH, this message board posts it. Board members also summarize the soap magazines. This is a great site to find out what Soaps In Depth is really talking about in their TV ads. http://soapzone.com/boards/topics.php/gh/main

Wubs -- This site is normally pretty accurate, and if they post a spoiler that doesn't happen, they correct themselves and give an explanation as to why the spoiler did not happen. http://www.wubs.net

Soap Opera Network -- This site is good for casting news, interviews, ratings, previews and spoilers for two weeks ahead. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com

Soap News and Scoops -- You have to register to view this site (it's free), but they have previews for two weeks ahead, plus news about cast changes. Their information comes straight from the magazines. http://www.soapnewsandscoops.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=1

This magazine is notorious for printing misleading headlines on the cover. Examples are countless headlines that lead you to believe Tamara Braun is returning to General Hospital (she's not). Other misleading headlines: Vanessa Marcil is returning (nope); Jack Wagner is returning (nope); Steve Burton is leaving (he took a two week paternity leave); Sam is dying (nope); Lorenzo recast (for two episodes, Ted King had emergency surgery).

From 1994-2001, General Hospital dedicated an episode to the fight against AIDS with the Nurses Ball. After 2001, they stopped producing the Nurses Ball because it was too hard to have the Nurses Ball on General Hospital and Port Charles at the same time. After Port Charles was cancelled, the Nurses Ball did not return.

Below are some links to general information about the Nurses Ball. You can also find some clips on http://www.youtube.com
