Storyline

During the original show up through the 1970s, the show primarily covered Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) and his friend, Nurse Jessie Brewer (Emily McLaughlin). Late in the 1970s, the show was doing badly in the ratings, so a new executive producer, Gloria Monty, decided to move the show's focus away from the hospital and onto material more relevant to a younger audience than the stereotypical "bored housewife", thus bringing in Luke and Laura, (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) and eventually having them marry in a stereotypical fantasy wedding that would not be matched until the real-life marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Quotes

Lucky Spencer: Dr. Quartermaine, I've got news. The first group of passengers are about to board the helicopter any minute.
Dr. Alan Quartermaine: I hope to God Emily and Monica are on it. Emily is hurt, Monica's a doctor.
Lucky Spencer: OK, But I don't have the passenger list. It's up to the people in the Versailles room to determine who comes down when.
Ned Ashton: That could easily turn into survival of the fittest. I mean, how many people do you think up there are willing to kill to live?

An Escape From Reality
27 April 2005 | by See all my reviews

This is a long running American soap that has only recently been aired in the UK. I started watching it a few weeks ago at a point that is months behind the states- meaning that I had missed some important story lines- but I was still hooked from the start. With all the glamour, drama and money this gives English soaps a run for their money. In england their soaps try to approach real life problems and situations but come out with nothing. Whilst as this soap approaches the same situations, but comes out on top by going over the top- it doesn't even pretend that they're going over the top- unlike here in the UK. This show is a true escape from reality that is hard to ween off.
