Jose and Eddie take no stock in a hypnotist that is performing in the hotel lounge. She soon changes their minds when they are both put under and made to act foolishly. She brings them out of it, but later, she puts Mr. Phillips under to make him more tolerant of Jose's bumbling and leaves him unaccountably adoring him instead.
The hotel manager is being critical of Jose. While at a stockholders meeting of the chain that owns the Park Central, the managers job is in jeopardy. Jose, owns one share of stock and saves his bosses job.
An astronaut and his entourage are staying at the hotel, and to impress the son of a guest, Jose says that he's a personal friend of his, leading to an incredible promise to have him visit the boy's scout pack. After trying several foolish ways to get in the Space man's room, Jose has a day dream of being an astronaut himself.
After completing his income tax form, he decides he's so happy with his new country, he'll add a tip to show his appreciation. However, such an unheard of gesture puts the IRS in a state of turmoil, and they beg him to take it back. In desperation, they even persuade Mr. Phillips to do an amateur psychoanalysis on him.
The "origin story" of José's coming to work at the hotel shows him being confused with a famous south American comedian due in New York. He is given the royal treatment, including a luxury suite, barber and manicurist service and expensive tailoring. He even throws a big party with all the help, until Phillips finds out who he really is. In the present, as a bellhop, he's supposed to be paying for all this out of his salary.
