Anyone who who this strange woman, Delilah Judith is?I worked in the L.A. local office of AFTRA (Amer. Federation of TV & Radio Artists) in the late 70's and most of the 80's. Judith Delilah would come into the office every six months to dutifully pay her union dues in person - though she hadn't worked in years. She would always be in full makeup that, - yes, resembled Bette Davis' character in "WHTBJ". She was always very pleasant and gracious tho' she didn't actually speak much. It was my understanding that she had been a former Ziegfeld girl back in the day - this from co-workers that had assisted her in previous years. It was somewhat sad to see that in some way she was still living back in her glory days but in a way there was something regal and dignified about the way she carried and conducted herself. Her presence was understandably off-putting for some. I was always curious about her life story. Her appearence always reminded me of Miss Havisham from Dicken's 'Great Expectations'.
Chicago Tribune, April 30, 1962, pt. 3, p. 3:LOOKING AT HOLLYWOODBette Davis to Co-Star with Joan Crawfordby Hedda HopperNew York, April 29---Bette Davis tells me she and her daughter, B. D., leave June 1 for Hollywood where she'll take a house and co-star with Joan Crawford in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Bette's longing to get back. All kinds of rumors were flying when she stepped out of the play "Night of the Iguana," and turned her part over to Shelley Winters. The truth is that Bette had a six month contract. She either had to sign for another six or make her exit. Because she had a good movie deal cooking the decision wasn't difficult. . . . . Shelley will be commuting by helicopter this summer while doing the play on Broadway and a picture, "Faster, Faster," on Fire Island. . . .
