Family, racial and political conflicts on extraordinary landscapes.
4 August 2012 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

Hawaii, 1959. Richard 'The King' (Charlton Heston) is a rich landowner who is swayed by influential people to stand for elections. The main difficulty in getting the vote of the natives is their opposition to his sister to marry one of them, not wanting to have an heir mestizo. What we know is that he will have a son from his relationship with a Hawaiian.

Movie filmed entirely on location in Hawaii, and splendidly photographed in Cinemascope, witnessing a romantic drama whose main protagonist, Charlton Heston, shines in a role tailor-made, and followed by a series of actors adequately fulfill its mission, highlighting the beauty of the young Yvette Mimieux.

Not a great movie, but if you belong to that series of dramatic and romantic films that were shot in the 50's and 60 American movies to the delight of one generation.

The film for the first hour it operates as a conventional drama, tinged with racial, family conflict and political adventures in Hawaii, 1959. The number of characters and plenty of frames make the story has low consistency. Then the characters have no development appears at the beginning of the film.

However, in the middle of the film, the viewer realizes that something is locked up in what we are seeing. Maybe the script pointing to situations too strong, the director, being aware of it, dare not develop in all its fullness. Thus it is expected outcome of the sub wasting possibilities. Plot. The film is well shot and there are good scenes and some dialogue of interest, which is very interesting vision, not only by history and performers, but also for the excellent scenery and good shooting
