A masterpiece, a film that gets better with time.
9 September 2009 | by (S. Paulo, Brazil) – See all my reviews

If there is a dangerous age for a man, I would say it is in their early twenties, like Jandir (Jece Valadão) and Vava (Daniel Filho) in this film. They thrive on being cruel to women like Leda (Norma Bengell), who they take to the beach and abandon naked, only to take pictures, to use in a blackmail plan. Jandir also at the beginning scenes, fools a prostitute, and has a lot of fun when she finds out and shouts at him in anger. Why this need to be violent and cruel? Probably because they can't really handle the women they meet. They are impotent, sometimes in all senses of the word. The nude scene of Leda, naked at the beach, full of despair and humiliation is one of the greatest ever filmed. Ruy Guerra, probably saw "Les Tricheurs" (Marcel Carne) and "A Bout de Soufflé" (Godard), but his is a totally different approach. A masterpiece, a film that gets better with time.
