Anachronisms

The story takes place in 1545, as indicated by the date on Elizabeth's tomb, however in the background in one scene a grandfather, or longcase, clock can be seen. The longcase clock was not developed until 1670.

Factual errors

The film is based in the 16th century, however Francis has an American accent. I don't believe the Americans were in England during this time.

The goof item below may give away important plot points.

Character error

When Elizabeth is trapped and gagged in the Iron Maiden, her hands are obviously free. Why then does she not remove her gag and cry out to Maximillian and the others to rescue her?
