The draft of a genius: great Northeastern Brazilian Western
guisreis18 November 2021
Very solid Nordestern (Western in Braziian Northeast) on traditional family struggles and honor vengeance. Wonderful cinematography and music score. Very well filmed and editted. Nelson Pereira dos Santos was effectively a genius! It is hard to believe that he made this good Western in these conditions: the crew went to Bahia in order to shoot Barren Lives (Vidas Secas), but it had rained too much and it was supposed to be a dry weather to produce that film. Therefore, he improvise another movie, with no detailed script and mostly extras as actors. Nelson Pereira dos Santos used to present this movie as a draft of a film. Well, his draft is by far better than the well planned films made by most directors in the world...
