Storyline

Teen idol Paul Anka plays Craig Fowler, the troubled son of dysfunctional parents Jackie and Jay Fowler (Ruth Roman and Alex Nicol). When Jay loses his job as a aircraft mechanic, he goes on a drinking binge to end all, passing out on the floor in front of his bored and disappointed wife. Meanwhile, across the back fence, Betty Lowell (Carole Mathews) confronts her philandering playboy husband Gareth (Jack Cassidy) about his extracurricular activities at work - activities which she has conveniently rationalized, as his success has made them the envy of their neighbors. While the parents fight, Craig and Betty's daughter Eileen (Gigi Perreau) indulge in a growing interest in each other - but what role models do they have for "normal" behavior? And how long can Craig hide his dark secret: a compulsion which drives him to prowl the neighborhood's quiet streets at night and peep in windows? Cast members Jack Cassidy and George Dolenz both were fathers of future rock star sons, David ... Written by alfiehitchie

Suburban noir-lite exposes social problems in suburbia
25 March 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Look in Any Window" is not an exploitation picture whatsoever. It's a serious look at American suburban life and problems. The screenplay is actually very "thick", that is, contains many observations and themes, much implied social commentary, and the themes are relevant.

The story is at times static and somewhat clumsy. These are not fatal flaws.

The acting is good, featuring Ruth Roman, Alex Nicol, Jack Cassidy and Carole Matthews in the main adult roles.

The story revolves around a prowler wearing a mask who has been seen in the neighborhood. This introduces the main families in the drama. Cassidy and Matthews are well off. He is an auto dealer. They have the swimming pool and the July 4th party represents the American way of life. But they are on the outs. He is a playboy. A subplot concerns whether or not Matthews will take his route.

Roman and Nicol are married, but he's quite a lush. He has lost his job. They spend more than their income, and their marriage is under a lot of strain. This is reflected in their troubled son, Paul Anka. Also, Roman is not fulfilled, and she's attracted to Cassidy.

Alcohol is the drug of choice. Conspicuous consumption or over-consumption is a problem. The teenagers are confused by the morality and problems of their parents. Life is supposed to be good, but look in any window and one finds it's not what it's advertised to be.

Even the police are shown to have problems.

This is a sincere drama.
