See: Harry Medved, "The Fifty Worst Films of All Time (and How They Got That Way)," NY, 1978, pp. 77-82

PATTI PAGE: (talking to Louella Parsons about Dondi): How many people do you know who cross the Atlantic with only a hunk of Salami as luggage?

(Peewee is trimming his Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.)

DEALEY (to Peewee): What do you say we stop all this tree-trimming jazz and hit the road to town.

PEEWEE: Oh now, Dealey, you know how I promised Mama about Christmas. You see, while she's trimming her tree in Peoria, I'm trimming mine right here. It's almost as if we're together!

DONDI (seeing Dealey eating dinner): Goshers! chow! Is sure smelling good, Mr. Dealey-Buddy! Is sure tasting good, too?

(The soldiers discuss Dondi's sad and sorry plight.)

PERKY: (a soldier) The kid needs a mother. Every kid needs a mother. Somebody to take his troubles to, or somebody to hear his prayers.

PEEWEE: Well, he could always bring his troubles to me. I'd be glad to hear his prayers. I like prayers.

SAMMYBOY (another soldier): You can't be no mother, Peewee! Mothers is female!

(Song: "Dondi, Little Dondi" sung by Patti Page)

Dondi, oh Dondi/Think of birds in the sky/Or a rainbow on high/That's Dondi, little Dondi . . . .

His smile can chase the clouds/And brighten skies above/And every empty heart/Will fill up with love.

DONDI (kneeling in prayer to God): I wish you make them let me stay in America, Mr. Big-Buddy, please.

PATTI PAGE (with tears in her eyes): Dondi's talking to the most influential friend of all!
