Walt Disney was able to use Henry Calvin and Gene Sheldon in co-starring roles since they were still under his contract. They were co-stars of Disney's Spanish Western television series Zorro (1957) which was then off the air due to legal disputes between Disney and the American Broadcasting Company.
After this production, Calvin and Sheldon performed as Barnaby's minions Gonzorgo and Roderigo in Babes in Toyland (1961) which was their final production with The Walt Disney Company after co-starring on "Zorro" as Sergeant Demetrio Lopez Garcia and Bernardo respectively.
In Eddie and the Cruisers (1983), Eddie calls Frank Ridgeway (Tom Berenger) "Toby Tyler" and gives the story of this movie as his origin.
This film is the only Disney production where Gene Sheldon has a speaking role, though he previously performed as an alcoholic clown named Puffo in 3 Ring Circus (1954).
Its official DVD release occurred on August 2, 2005.
