Westwood - The master of sensual European cinema golden years have a tint of blue. UCLA just hosted retrospective of Radley Metzger’s films. His most important films are being released on Blu-ray. He’s about to take the director’s chair as he approaches 83.
His masterwork Camille 2000 was just released Blu-ray with an extended version from Cult Epics. The 1969 update of Dumas’ The Lady of the Camellias takes place in an esoteric Italy. The restored high definition transfer gives a detailed look at that magical time. The Party Favors had a chance to chat with Radley Metzger about the release.

Radley is a true independent filmmaker. He owns the rights to his films instead of selling them off to distributor. He’s not at the mercy of an indifferent studio executive to keep his cinematic legacy available. The first question had to be...

“Any movie can be great at 2 1/2 minutes!”
For those of you who may be wondering what Trailers From Hell is but have taken the time to read this review, you are about to be introduced to what will probably be one of your new favourite sites. Trailers From Hell is a site for people who love films, made by people who love films (and make films). Conceived and created by the likes of director Joe Dante, Trailers From Hell draws on the knowledge of a variety of gurus (generally notable genre directors) who provide commentaries for film trailers.
The Trailers From Hell website can be found here and I can highly recommend you check it out, if you haven’t already. Make sure you have a few hours to spare before clicking on the link though.
In addition to the site, a DVD was released last year by Tfh which...

The DVD arrives July 5th; the kind words arrive now!
Volume 2 is coming. They’re up for grabs if you look closely. And we’re selling them early — and in person — next week. But, for now, the press keep rolling on.
Over at Entertainment Weekly, they singled out our new DVD, laying some introductory groundwork and highlighting a couple of the reasons that you’re going to purchase it:
On the new DVD compilation Trailers From Hell! Volume 2, Hellboy helmer Guillermo del Toro gushes over Dario Argento’s twisted and bloody 1975 thriller Deep Red; B-movie maestro Roger Corman (whose 1960 cheapie The Little Shop of Horrors is included in the disc’s Extras) explains how he ended up playing a Nazi in 1960′s Ski Troop Attack; and the always-welcome John Landis (An American Werewolf in London) steals the show with his riff on 1961′s Godzilla rip-off Gorgo — a film he unabashedly...

Trailers are the late-night infomercials of the movie world. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve sat through some two-minute teaser for a film I know will be god-awful, only to be sucked into its gaping maw of sugar-shock spectacle and hype. No one knows this sensation better than the schlock savants at trailersfromhell.com. For the past several years, Gremlins director Joe Dante and his stable of like-mindedly geeky filmmakers have been serving up hilariously insightful commentaries about grade-z films. As a movie’s titillating trailer unspools, these talking heads share cheeky backstories, clever criticism,...

If you share any of my tastes, Shout! Factory puts out some pretty sweet stuff. From classics and hard-to-find gems to being the official distributor for the greatest television show of all time ("Mystery Science Theater 3000"), Shout! Factory is always putting out something weird and wonderful.
This time it is Vol. 2 in their glorious collection of trailers from across time and genres, Trailers From Hell, containing 20 rare and vintage trailers. For more info check out Trailers From Hell online.
What is very cool about this collection is that you can watch the straight dope and just take in the trailers as originally intended. However, you also can watch them with commentary from such folks as Joe Dante (Piranha, Gremlins), Mick Garris (The Stand), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) and more.
Trailers From Hell Volume 2 features:
Roger Corman on trailers for Ski Troop Attack and Premature Burial.

As Cinema Retro 'regulars' know, we have occasionally been able to find unpublished or rarely-seen interviews with legendary film personalities and provide them for our readers. In issue #1 of the magazine, Steve Mori provided an unseen interview Steve McQueen from 1968 and in issue #15, Steve did the same with a fascinating 1974 discussion with Lee Marvin. Now contributing writer Kris Gilpin has been kind enough to share with us with a 1988 interview with director Monte Hellman, whose work is revered by some of the great directors of our time. Please keep in mind that the text and events that are discussed in this interview took place in 1988 and have not been amended. (This is part one of a two-part interview.)

It might boggle your mind to hear this (it certainly boggles mine that I'm even writing this) but the man who directed the 1994 Fantastic Four film, The Wasp Woman and Ski Troop Attack is being presented with an Academy Award. The Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this morning their honorary Oscars this morning and Roger Corman's name was among those selected to receive an award for his contribution to cinema. Normally the award is reserved for people like Lauren Bacall...
