Shah Rukh Khan buys Mughal-e-Azam posters for Rs 684 lakh at auction

Shah Rukh Khan never shied away from his admiration and respect for the thespian actor Dilip Kumar. Yet another testimony to this was seen at the Osian's auction of rare and vintage film memorabilia. Shah Rukh Khan went on to purchase two magnificent original posters of the iconic film Mughal-e-Azam for Rs 6.84 lakh. The other paintings which commanded high prices included Arpana Caur's 'Shri 420' (which fetched the highest price of Rs 7.5 lakh), an original hand-painted hard board standee of Yahudi with Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari (for Rs. 4.8 lakh), the Ganga Jumna artwork which was signed and inscribed by Dilip Kumar in 1962 (for Rs. 2.16 lakh), a six-sheet poster of Mother India (for Rs 2.52 lakh) and many others. Speaking about the prestigious auction, Neville Tuli (Chairman- Osian's Group) said that it was very good to see the film fraternity finally taking a huge interest and responsibility in helping to preserve this fragile heritage. »

Bajirao Mastani to the most expensive Bollywood film

At a staggering budget of Rs 210 crores, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani may well be the most costly Indian film to be ever produced. The period epic to be co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Eros International goes on the floors at the end of the year. The film is expected to recreate a chapter of Maratha history that would require mammoth expenses. Says a core member of the team, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali has earlier made a very lavish period film Devdas. But there he could allow his imagination to control his budget somewhat (although at Rs. 65 crores Devdas was one of the most expensive films then). But In Bajrao Mastani, there can be no compromises. Every detail has to be authentic." Apparently, Bhansali intends to dress Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in costumes woven from threads used in the era of Bajirao Peshwa. Says the source, »

Dilip Kumar’s Biography Launched at Lavish Event!

Legendary icon Dilip Kumar’s long-awaited autobiography was launched last night, with many stars attending the function to celebrate its release. Titled ‘The Shadow and the Substance’, the book has been written by Uday Tara Nayar and covers Dilip Kumar’s anecdotes regarding his lengthy career within the film industry, as well as aspects of his personal and family life. Considered to be one of the greatest actors to have ever emerged from Indian Cinema, the book launch hosted by Karan Johar and was attended by many stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Priyanka Chopra, Javed Akhtar, Jeetendra, Prem Chopra, Danny Denzongpa, Vyjayanthimala and Sharman Joshi to name just a few.

Bollywood’s biggest names to launch Dilip Kumar’s autobiography

Come 9th June, the long wait on the biography of Bollywood thespian Dilip Kumar will be over! Titled ‘Substance and Shadow’, the biography was written by author Uday Tara Nayara a close family friend. “The title Substance & The Shadow was suggested by Dilip saab. The ‘substance’ refers to the actual person behind the legend and the ‘shadow’ is the mythical image that has come to surround his persona,” Nayar says.

One of Bollywood’s greatest actors Dilip Kumar’s career spanned 60 years and he starred in such classics as Devdas and Mughal-e-Azam to name just two!

Earlier scheduled to be released on his 91st birthday, the highly anticipated tome is all set to be revealed in Mumbai, India on June 9th.
