Madrid Madrid Madrid ...by a magnificent Edgard Neville
29 May 2009 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

We are facing a portrait costumbrist of the city of Madrid since the beginning of the 20th century until the 1950. The script focuses on one of its streets popular in the living side by side characters of varied economic and social position. The film teaches us all a sample of the time , as rogues , the processions, the organs, the "chotis", the real parades, the meadow madrileño, girls marriageable… Throughout the film shows the vision that have the neighbors of "Mi Calle", and that is supposed to people more popular, on historical events that are proceeding and that are viewed with a certain remoteness. The daily life and the problems near between the neighbors are above the avatars politicians from the moment. The friendship and familiarity are valued above all else. But in this film does not hide the passions and tragedies that also accompanied in the life of all people, and thus appear in the indent the seduction and deception sexual, the cross of the carnivals, the suicide. Edgard Neville leaves us a series of ironies on politics as the "himno de Riego" sung by the parrot, the change of the titles of books according to the political moment, the "conspirators" taking coffee with milk…. The film does not entail spirit of revenge before the misfortunes of the civil war, and hence the opinion of "all be fought heroically". We have a magnificent film of Edgard Neville that show optimism, joy and intelligence, a film that has to do everything lover of the city of Madrid.
