Aspca To Host 2017 Humane Awards Luncheon

The Aspca (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Animals) 2017 Humane Awards Luncheon, with Master of Ceremonies Chuck Scarborough, will recognize both people and animal heroes who, over the past year, have demonstrated extraordinary efforts and a commitment to animal welfare.

It looks like Jon Favreau’s upcoming “The Lion King” adaptation just became an event all by itself. Disney announced Wednesday that Beyonce Knowles-Carter would be joining an already-stacked voice cast, playing Nala in the latest CGI adaptation of a beloved Disney film.

Though details remain light on how much the new film will mirror its 2-D animated predecessor, the 1994 film featured Nala as the childhood best friend and eventual love interest of the would-be king Simba. Set for a 2019 release, Beyonce joins Donald Glover as Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, and James Earl Jones, reprising his role as Mufasa from the original.

George Clooney Donates $1 Million to Counter War Crimes and Corruption in Africa

Today George Clooney, through the Clooney Foundation for Justice, gave a $1 million gift to The Sentry to kick off its “Making War Criminals Pay” fundraising campaign.

With increased investigative capacity, The Sentry – an initiative of the Enough Project and Not On Our Watch – will dramatically increase its production of dossiers focused on war criminals and their financial networks. The Sentry’s dossiers are being turned over to banks and governments in order to lay the foundation for serious action by regulatory and law enforcement authorities around the world, aimed at prosecuting or seizing the assets of those who finance and benefit from genocide or other war crimes.

In addition to George Clooney’s generous grant, The Sentry is pleased to announce leadership gifts from: Don Cheadle, Carl Allen, Ruben Vardanyan, the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, and three major donors who wish to remain anonymous. Including the Clooney Foundation grant, these gifts total $3.45 million.

2017 Los Angeles Mission Gala To Honor Catherine Zeta-Jones

The Los Angeles Mission has announced that its 7th Annual Legacy of Vision Gala will honor multiple award-winning actress Catherine Zeta Jones.

Jones will be honored with Anne Douglas’s namesake Award at the November 9th gala.

Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio will receive the Legacy of Vision Award at the Mission’s gala. He is the owner of the popular new restaurant ink.well.

The gala event will be hosted by Michaela Pereira, Anchor and host of the daily program “Michaela” on Hln. Music will be provided by country music star Adam Craig.

Country Rising Concert To Support Hurricane Relief

Country Music’s biggest stars have rallied to announce plans for Country Rising, a benefit concert to support those in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and additional Caribbean islands who have been impacted by the recent hurricanes.

The star-studded lineup at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 12 will include performances by Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Garth Brooks, Sam Hunt, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, George Strait and Carrie Underwood. Tickets and VIP packages for the event go on Ticketmaster.com.

In light of the horrific tragedy in Las Vegas this week, and out of respect for victims, event organisers have postponed the on-sale date originally scheduled for this Friday.

Matthew McConaughey and Marcus & Morgan Luttrell, join an all-star lineup for the Red River Celebrity Softball Game to be held October 12th at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

The fundraising event to benefit The Lone Survivor Foundation will include University of Texas Alumni battling it out with Oklahoma University alumni. Both teams will include combat veterans representing the various military branches.

Tidal is doing their part to help those in need.

The subscription based music company launched the Tidal X: Puerto Rico initiative on Thursday to help families in Puerto Rico who have been heavily affected by the destruction of Hurricane Maria.

As part of the initiative, Tidal has pledged to charter a cargo plane that will transport 200,000 pounds of supplies to Puerto Rico, including batteries, flashlights, portable lanterns, diapers, baby wipes, cases of water and feminine hygiene products.

But, they need your help to hit their target goal! Artists such as Fat Joe, Romeo Santos and radio personality, Angie Martinez, will be at one of the 19 drop off points in New York to help collect donations. For those outside of New York who wish to help, monetary donations are being accepted at Tidal.com/PuertoRico.

Major Leaguers To Provide $1 Million To Support Disaster Relief

The Major League Baseball Players Trust has announced it will provide $1 million in funding to support nonprofits dedicated to providing relief and recovery to the victims of the recent spate of natural disasters occurring across the Americas.

In keeping with its commitment and practice of assisting others when disasters strike, the Players Trust will distribute the funds in a manner that will support short-term relief as well as long-term recovery efforts in areas suffering in the wake of the recent hurricanes and earthquakes.

Major Leaguers are passionate about supporting the places where they work and live, and, for many Players, the disasters have devastated areas that so many of them call home. Celebrities are continuing to show their support for the victims of the recent multiple hurricanes.

On Friday, Jay Z's global music and entertainment platform, Tidal, announced that proceeds from their 3rd annual Tidal X: Brooklyn concert will go to benefit hurricane relief efforts. The event will be hosted by radio DJ Angie Martinez and will take place on Oct. 17 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
