One of Hammer's Best
6 October 2012 | by See all my reviews

Brides of Dracula is certainly one of the best of the Hammer Horror features. Terry Fisher construct's a riveting story at a brisk pace and even though there are very few FX's he gets top performances out of his actors. Peter Cushing, Martita Hunt, and Freda Jackson are old pros and can be counted on to deliver the goods. Of David Peel, all I can say is that it is a shame that he didn't do more horror films because he certainly had a knack for the gender. His Baron Meinster is handsome, charismatic, suave, sophisticated, sinister, aristocratic, and processes that sense of personal entitlement that ultimately makes him truly evil. It is the Baron that holds the story together and he is one of Hammer's most interesting monsters.

Yvonne Monlaur is a beautiful Hammer Glamour Gal of limited acting ability but she's bolstered by her talented co-stars. She is great eye candy, however, as are the two other "brides' Andree Melly and Marie Devereux.

No matter what your film viewing pleasure is,this is Hammer,Terrance Fisher, and Peter Cushing at their best and you won't miss Christophrt Lee at all.
