Deadline is reporting that Ron Howard (Da Vinci Code) will direct "My Stroke of Insight," based on the memoir of brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor. Howard is currently speaking to Jodie Foster to star in the film. Plot: In late 1996, the 37-year old Taylor suffered a massive stroke caused by a blood vessel that exploded in the left side of her brain. A Harvard-trained neuro-anatomist, Taylor's brain function deteriorated in a matter or hours to where she couldn't walk, read or write, or even recall past memories. It took 8 years for her to mend. Her knowledge of how the brain works gave her the opportunity to experience and write about brain recovery that became at times a mystical experience, as the right half compensated for the damaged left half and infused her with feelings of peace and well-being that she has tried to retain, even after struggling to reclaim her »

Ron Howard Wants Foster To Have A 'Stroke Of Insight'

1 October 2010 4:12 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Ron Howard and Image Entertainment are teaming up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to go and make a film out of "My Stroke of Insight", a series of memoirs written by Jill Bolte Taylor. The book talks about the scientists' journey through recovery from having a debilitating stroke. The only thing that's not set in stone is Jodie Foster's involvement with the project. Howard really wants the actress to star in the film but at the moment she's not one hundred percent on board. The novel focuses on a Harvard-trained neuro-anatomist who's brain function deteriorated in a matter or hours to where she couldn't walk, read or write, or even recall past memories.  It took 8 years for her to mend. Her knowledge of how the brain works gave her the opportunity to experience and write about brain recovery that became at times a mystical experience, as the right half compensated »

Ron Howard to Direct My Stroke of Insight, Wants Jodie Foster

Although I don't have many good things to say about his newest film, The Dilemma (watch the trailer), I still consider Ron Howard a very talented director, he just needs the right kind of non-comedy projects to work on. Deadline says he may have a new one lined up following The Dilemma (and The Dark Tower) that's an adaptation of brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor's memoir My Stroke of Insight. Sony Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, including Brian Grazer, are teaming up to produce, with Semi Chellas ("The Eleventh Hour") writing the script. And apparently Howard wants Jodie Foster to star, but she's not officially attached yet. My Stroke of Insight, published in '07, deals with the complexities of the human mind. In 1996, the 37-year old Taylor suffered a massive stroke caused by a blood vessel that exploded in the left side of her brain. A Harvard-trained neuroanatomist, Taylor's brain function »

Ron Howard is set to direct an adaptation of neuro-anatomist’s Jill Bolte Taylor’s memoir My Stroke of Insight.  The book chronicles Taylor’s fight to recover from a massive stroke she suffered in 1996 at the age of 37.  A blood vessel on the left side of her brain exploded and within a matter of hours, she could no longer walk, read, write, or even recall past memories.  Taylor’s training as a neuro-anatomist gave her a unique insight into her own recovery that “became at times a mystical experience” and “fused her with feelings of peace and well-being that she has tried to retain, even after struggling to reclaim her life and standing in the scientific community.”  Deadline reports that Howard wants Jodie Foster to play Taylor.  Then they can all go home with a sack full of “Overcoming Adversity” Oscars.

Ron Howard To Direct My Stroke of Insight, Wants Jodie Foster To Star

1 October 2010 1:08 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Over the summer, Ron Howard got back to his roots directing The Dilemma, a comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. Though he started his directing career making movies like Night Shift and Parenthood, the 90s and 2000s were filled with Howard dramas like Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and Frost/Nixon. Apparently the change in tone is only temporary. Deadline reports that Ron Howard has signed on to direct My Stroke of Insight. Based on the book of the same name by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, the story is a memoir that recounts the author's recovery from a stroke. The script is being written by Semi Chellas and Howard wants Jodie Foster, who hasn't been in a movie since 2008's Nim's Island, to star, though she isn't officially attached. Howard also recently signed on to direct an adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I must say that »
