The story of this film is freely based on the Carlo Emilio Gadda's novel "Quer Pasticciaccio Brutto de via Merulana" ("Bad deal on Merulana street"). This Pietro Germi's movie represents the beginning of Italian Commedy, of which Germi will be one of the masters, certainly the most innovative.- Written by Ferdi Carcavallo
