Excellent film of J. L. Romero Marchent surprisingly forgotten
Eudosio (Jose Isbert) and Carlos (Juanjo Menéndez), are two prisoners who have served sentences for crimes that have not committed. When they leave the prison, the life they were becomes extremely difficult because of his status of ex-convicts. Do not get any job and without any experience decide stealing of truth to get survive. Eudosio" represents a person very optimistic despite all the adversities that finds it, but "Carlos" represents the opposite , pessimism total, displaying the life as a disappointment. The two just staying in the house of "Damian" that is on the outskirts of the city, and almost in ruins, and there known to "Esperanza" the daughter of "Damian". As his own name says, she is the person who gives them hope (esperanza) to move forward with something of illusion. It is a movie that bypasses the drama continued at a slight humor at certain times. Shows very well the hard life, everyday in Madrid in 1950, very well filmed by the streets of the old Madrid. Their players are excellent, stressing without any doubt its main actor Jose Isbert, that fills all the scene. Emilio Santiago "El Jaula" creates a character benevolent and has a great performance as well as Julia Martinez (Esperanza) and Manuel Arbó ( Damián). Juanjo Menendez does not succeed in its role a performance like that was followed in a large number of films, it might have been better Jose Luis Ozores for the character of pessimistic. Joaquión L. Romero Marchent its director achieved a great film, which i placed among the best of Spanish cinema in the 1950. It is astonishing that this film has gone unnoticed until now.
