Nights are long and frustrating for Tony Nelson (James Congdon), a brilliant and enlightened scientist researching matter and its relationship to time and space. He experiments with an unusual amplifier that he has proven releases hard matter from the atomic identity it holds allowing atoms of other objects to intermingle with it without damage, meaning that he has found a way of melding two dissimilar objects initiating a third type of material. When one of his late-night tests causes the destruction of the lab where he has been working he is forced to leave his post for another lab where his brother Scott (Robert Lansing) continues research into devising a highly impregnable type of steel called Cargonite. Scott offers Tony a job which Tony considers because it would give him opportunities to continue his research. Things look even better when Tony meets Linda Davis (Lee Meriwether), until he discovers she is Scotts fiancée. The sense of competition between the brothers reemerges when Tony tells Scott of his research into passing objects through each other and Scotts intense interest is piqued. Even though Scott suffers from raging migraines, his doctor has assured him is only his brain functioning at a very high level. Tony and Linda are attracted to each other immediately and the sense of guilt in Tony makes him to decide to leave the lab. But Scott snoops into Tonys experiment and discovers that he can pass objects through each other and additionally he can pass his own hand trough solid matter. He repeats the experiment for Tony discovering that he doesnt need the amplifier but merely by will-power he has the power to pass through solid matter, but with physical drawbacks resulting in severely aging him every time and preventing him from touching other humans without killing them.
