Jess Harper is critically wounded by Clint Buckner's gang when he attempts to prevent the ambush of the tumbleweed wagon transporting Clint's brother, Vern to his hanging in Cheyenne. With Jess needing a doctor, and not likely to survive the trip to Laramie, Marshal Branch McGary and Deputy Reb Carlson are forced to head for Ironwood and straight into the arms of Clint Buckner and his gang.
