If you are Portuguese you love Fado and Bullfights. Then this movie is for you. It suffices that one of the stars is the great Amalia Rodrigues, the greatest fado singer of all times. (Whom I had the privilege of meeting.) Playing opposite Amalia is Diamantino Viseu, one of the two great bullfighters of the time. (The other one being Manuel dos Santos who can be seen in the movie Sol e Toiros.) This is another of the movies that have been mentioned as telling the story of Amalia as a woman that has to give up her love. Although it is true that Amalia had a much more fulfilling professional life than a personal life, this movie is more a story of unrequited love between a fadista and a toureiro. The movie is worth watching if for no other reason than to watch Amalia singing some of her best numbers and watching Diamantino Viseu fighting a few bulls. That is not to say that the plot is not worth watching in and of itself. If you ever get a chance to what this classic don't pass it up.
