Dr. Hermann Seidel is an authoritarian teacher at a small town high school. After the dislocation to a big town school, he sees himself and his concept of education, put to a severe test.
It would not be entirely unfair to describe this film as a dated piece of "honest teacher tames rough rascals". It has been done better before and it has been done better since. Some of the youth rebellion ideas have become unintentionally funny.
The one redeeming feature of the piece are the wrestlers. Gert Fröbe as a professional wrestler, fixed results, faked injuries and all is a sight to be treasured. The connection to the main plot is slim - Gert shows the teacher a few moves for self-defense, and one night the rebellious youth abandons a planned physical attack when our teacher is accompanied by some of these silverbacks.
