Pentti Siimes and Hillevi Lagerstram shine together
Petey-103 October 2006
Pentti Siimes plays an aging colonel Carolus Rutger von Haestman who becomes ill.Soon he's announced dead until he gets off his coffin and goes to town.He goes to look for Amelie (Hillevi Lagerstarm), the woman he loved when he was young. So he finds her and they go dancing, just like they did a few decades earlier.William Markus directed Autuas eversti (1958) and it's based on Walentin Chorell's story. This is a Pentti Siimes and Hillevi Lagerstram show. They really shine in this movie.Mr. Siimes has always been one of my favorites of Finnish actors. He's terrific portraying both young and old colonel. And Mrs. Lagerstram as Amelie Carlsdotter Silfversvärd is just as good. The make-up department has also done good job. They really look like old people.Other actors do a good job as well.Anneli Sauli, who's a real beauty, is really enchanting in this movie portraying Senja.Martti Romppanen is great as Hans, vänrikki (second lieutenant).Kosti Klemelä, who did terrific job in Tuntematon sotilas playing Koskela, is brilliant here playing Albert.Marja Korhonen plays Agneta and is very good in her part.Tarmo Manni is great as he always was playing Ossian.Mikko Niskanen, Juhani Kumpulainen, Matti Kuusla, Leni Katajakoski and Laila Rihte are seen in small parts.I found this movie mighty funny, I don't care what modern critics may say or what anybody else may say. This was good.Much better than most of the modern movies they make in Finland. They seem to have forgotten comedy entirely.
