More than 4m copies of Agatha Christie's 80 whodunnits are bought around the world every year. But is she really as good as her fans say, or have they just lost the plot?
To me, they're not so much whodunnits as idontgeddits. I have tried many times over the years to get into Agatha Christie's books. It should be easy. I'm an omnivorous (if you're being polite; undiscriminating if you're not) reader. I am no fan of the modern world and particularly not of the gore that increasingly besplatters it whenever the words "murder mystery" or "crime fiction" heave into view.
But I have always found Christie unreadable. Frank Skinner in his autobiography explains that he can't enjoy fiction – any fiction – because the minute he opens a book to read "Alan walked into the room", he thinks, "No, he didn't. There was no Alan. There is no room. You »

Week 14 and another update from the IMDb250 project (Sorry it’s late). This week I got another chance to see one of the most incredible movies ever made in the Clyde Bruckman/Buster Keaton masterpiece ‘The General’ which I will talk more about later. I also watched the brilliant Finding Nemo from Pixar and another Charlie Chaplin masterpiece in Modern Times and in Witness for the Prosecution I had another first time movie from the genius that is Billy Wilder.
However these superb four films were let down by only the second film in the list so far for me that doesn’t quite deserve its place in the Top 250 list which was Tim Burton’s Big Fish that really underwhelmed although being a typical Burton visual feast.
It’s strange but not particularly surprising that the project has taken over my life, I’m watching on average 3/4 of a »

The IMDb250. A list of the top 250 films, as ranked by the users of the biggest movie internet site on the web. The list has been much maligned, particularly recently. It is however based upon the ratings provided by the users of The Internet Movie Database, which number into the millions. As such, it’s a perfect representation of the opinions of the movie masses, and arguably the most comprehensive ranking system on the internet. If you have a real interest in film, chances are you’re a regular visitor to IMDb.com.
It’s because of this that we at HeyUGuys (and in this case, we, is myself and Gary) have decided to set ourselves a project. To watch and review all 250 movies on the list! We’ve frozen the list as of 1st January this year (See below), as it is always ever changing. It’s not as simple as it sounds, »
