A lightweight Gene Kelly production, 29 November 2014
Author: atlasmb from United States

This film is a thin story about an American boy and a French girl who hit the road for an adventure, eluding their parents along the way.

Directed and produced by Gene Kelly, who plays the father, "The Happy Road" is just that--a happy story about life on the road. There is never any real angst over the missing children. The film plays as a farce among the small towns and back roads of France.

The two parents, joined in a common goal, mostly play supporting roles to the two adventurers, who thwart the efforts of gendarmes and generals trying to intercept their path.

Children might enjoy this film as much as, or more than, adults.
