Another Rather Sad Stooge Effort Because Of Shemp's Death.
14 October 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Made after the death of my personal favorite Stooge, Shemp Howard, Scheming Schemers is a remake of 1949's Vagabond Loafers, which itself is a reworking of one of my all time favorite Three Stooges short films, the Curly Howard classic, A Plumbing We Will Go. I watched this short, and in my point of view, this is another rather sad Stooge effort because of Shemp's death. Shemp's death was to sad and depressing for me to enjoy the last couple of Stooge shorts that they made. I wanted to like this, it's funny, but it isn't hysterical.

In this short, there is nothing new. There is just a whole lot of footage recycled from A Plumbing We Will Go, Vagabond Loafers, and not to mention Curly's last short, Half-Wit's Holiday. In the minuscule amount of new footage that there was, they had to use a doppelganger(as I call it) for Shemp, because he had died at this time. And they had to use some old footage, as well as hire a double. However, I can say something in this shorts favor, I did laugh a lot at the old footage, so this did save the short.

Well all in all, this short is funny, it is not hysterical, but it is funny, I'll give it a five for being a mostly funny but unoriginal short that could have been better if it wasn't for the tragedy of Shemp's death. If you love The Three Stooges, then you will love this. I myself am a huge fan of The Three Stooges, as so for that reason alone, I found this short funny. Not hysterical, but funny. I might have enjoyed this much more if Shemp's death hadn't of rubbed me the wrong way, but I still found it to be funny all the same.
