Lana Del Rey and the Weeknd’s ‘Lust for Life’ Recalls an Infamous Hollywood Suicide (Video)

23 May 2017 2:47 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Lana Del Rey knows Hollywood, dropping references to everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Nancy Sinatra to Lana Turner, from whom she borrowed her name. And the video for her new song with The Weeknd, “Lust for Life,” invites recollections of one of Hollywood’s most storied tragedies. “Lust for Life” features the frequent collaborators playing young lovers, sharing a lovely duet. “Climb up the H of the Hollywood sign,” she sings, and then her character does just that. When she gets to the top, she meets him there. He sings lines that include, “They say only the good die young. »

Willem Dafoe as Vincent Van Gogh in ‘At Eternity’s Gate’: Julian Schnabel Gives Us An Exclusive First Look

23 May 2017 2:37 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If anyone can show us something we haven’t seen before about Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, it’s Oscar-nominated painter-filmmaker Julian Schnabel, who announced at Cannes that he will direct “At Eternity’s Gate” starring Willem Dafoe (who also stars in Director’s Fortnight entry “The Florida Project”) as the world’s most acclaimed Post-Impressionist painter, who died at age 37 before he was recognized for his gifts.

“I’ve been working on it for a couple of years,” said Schnabel on the phone from Montauk. “It has to do with trying to make a work of art. By making a film about him, I might shed a little light on what it is to be doing what he’s doing, who he really was, and what his issues were, what somebody needed to do to do what he did, and what he’s not going to do.”

You'll Want Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd to Live Happily Ever After When You See This

22 May 2017 11:25 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

The best part about the "Lust For Life" music video is that it presents me with an alternate universe where Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd are living happily ever after together in a meadow of daisies, which is a fantasy I didn't realize I wanted until this very moment. On top of that, the video - which is off of her upcoming album, Lust For Life - is just as dreamy as the ridiculously catchy Summer song. A real relationship between the two is unlikely, but there's nothing stopping us all from replaying the video over, and over, and over, and . . . »

Iggy Pop and Josh Homme Unite in American Valhalla Documentary Trailer

8 May 2017 3:12 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Iggy Pop has shared the first trailer for the upcoming American Valhalla movie. The movie documents the making of last year's excellent Post Pop Depression album, which was a collaboration between Iggy Pop and Queens of the Stone Age's Joshua Homme. The movie also follows the band on their short tour to support the album ending at London's regal Royal Albert Hall. The collaboration was kept a secret from the public right up until it was released, a rare feat in today's world of leaks and spoilers.

American Valhalla details the story of how Iggy Pop and Josh Homme got together and apparently it was as simple as a text from Pop to Homme asking if he'd like to work together. Homme being a huge fan of Pop in all stages of his career admits that he had to think about it because he didn't want to disappoint one of his musical heroes. »

How Danny Boyle Blew the Sequel to ‘Trainspotting’

8 April 2017 8:50 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Nostalgia for the ’90s has a special double potency. The decade is now old enough that we can look back at it with the same bittersweet remember when? tug that powered ’80s nostalgia and ’70s nostalgia — and, before that, the 1962 nostalgia of “American Graffiti” (the movie that was the true launchpad of nostalgia culture). There’s a great deal in the ’90 to get nostalgic about: “Seinfeld” and Tarantino, “Sex and the City” and “Boogie Nights”; the Clinton boom and the Clinton scandals; the return of martinis; the rise of boy bands and grunge, Snoop Dogg and Eminem; the earthquake that was O.J.; and on and on. Yet part of the decade’s uniqueness came from what wasn’t there. It was the last moment before the Internet took over, and along with it a certain aura of technological control. I’d argue that with rose-colored hindsight (and when it comes to nostalgia, »

You'll Want to Buy Lana Del Rey's New Album Based on This Teaser Alone

30 March 2017 9:45 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Two months after the release of her single "Love," Lana Del Rey has announced that a new album is "coming soon." The singer posted a video on Facebook, teasing that she's been thinking about exactly what she wants to say with her new music. The video feels just like an old episode of The Twilight Zone, with a dash of Bewitched. The album, Lust For Life, will be her first since 2015's Honeymoon. I highly recommend watching the retro video, but if you just want the highlights, here's what her voice-over says: "You know, in this town, an artist really needs a lot of space when they're trying to create something special. A place to cultivate a world of their own, far away from the real world that's around them. Luckily for me, I live right inside the middle of the H of the Hollywood sign. And this is how »

TMZ Sued for Defamation by Iggy Pop Autograph Seeker

For once, TMZ is finding itself at the center of a celebrity-related legal drama, rather than reporting on one. 'T2: Trainspotting': How the Original Cast Made a Perfect 20-Years-Later Sequel

17 March 2017 1:32 PM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

"I'm not sure that Americans have penises," Ewan McGregor declares, carefully and painstakingly keeping his expression as deadpan as possible.

Danny Boyle's ears suddenly perk up. "Wait, your penis isn't there? Did they blur it out?" He lets out a laugh that might be characterized as the sound of exploding joy. "That would explain a lot!"

"They have to import them from Scotland," Jonny Lee Miller adds, at which point McGregor's stone-faced look begins to crack a bit.

"Scottish sausage!" Ewan Bremner chimes in, chuckling. "It's where the term comes from. »

'T2: Trainspotting' Review: The Lads Are Back in Mournful Sequel to Cult Classic

15 March 2017 1:12 PM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Back in 1996, Trainspotting (adapted from Irvine Welsh's 1993 cult novel) emerged as one of the great British films of the era, one that bristled with incendiary sense of style and danger. The daring dims a bit in T2: Trainspotting, though director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Steve Jobs) and doctor-turned-screenwriter John Hodge try their damnedest to force lightning to strike twice. The passing of two decades can take the piss out of characters, especially the four slum-dwelling Scotsman who caught that generation-defining moment of youth-in-revolt set to a pulsating Brit-pop score (Elastica, »

T2 Trainspotting Review: The Cult Classic Gets a Brilliant Sequel

14 March 2017 3:04 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Director Danny Boyle recaptures lightning in a bottle. T2 Trainspotting is a vivid, frenetic sequel to the cult classic that made Ewan McGregor a star. Trainspotting was the thumb in your eye, middle-finger homage to the drug-addled lunacy that defined a distinct era in Britain. Twenty years later, T2 will have you rolling in the aisles; laughing, and grimacing at the gang's new adventures. The characters remain true to form as they reconnect in spectacularly awkward fashion.

The last time we saw Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), he had stolen the heroin money, given a secret cut to Spud (Ewen Bremner), and absconded mysteriously. Leaving Simon aka Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and the psychotic Begbie (Robert Carlyle) passed out on the floor. The story picks up twenty years later with Mark having a life-altering crisis in Amsterdam. The waif thin junkie has been replaced by a supremely fit exercise addict. »

‘T2 Trainspotting’ Trailer Sets The Beat For The Old Gang’s Reunion

With the “Lust for Life” drums pounding and Ewan McGregor’s older, maybe wiser ex-junkie surveying the tiny room that housed cinema’s grimmest heroin withdrawal, this new trailer couldn’t herald the arrival of anything but Danny Boyle’s T2 Trainspotting. “Twenty years have just flown by, yeah?” says Ewen Bremner’s Spud to McGregor’s Mark Renton. Maybe, maybe not, but the Trainspotting gang’s back just the same, with Jonny Lee Miller’s Sick Boy and Robert Carlyle’s Begbie… »
