Storyline

The stooges are government agent entrusted with protecting professor Sneed, who has invented a super rocket fuel. Larry is mistaken for the professor by foreign agents who kidnap the trio and take them to the country of Anemia where they are ordered to produce the rocket fuel or be executed. The boys come up with a concoction they try to pass of as the real stuff, but are exposed when the real professor and his daughter are also kidnapped. The stooges help them escape, using their secret formula to fuel a jeep. Written by Mitch Shapiro <mshapiro@a.crl.com>

Mediocre, Disappointing, And Occasionally, Just Plain Sad.
11 October 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Shemp Howard is my personal favorite Stooge of The Three Stooges, and several of the shorts that he was in are some of my all time favorite Three Stooges short films, unfortunately, this one, is not one of them, and I'll tell you why. Hot Stuff is like a lot of the later Shemp shorts were, it is a cheap, low-budget remake of a short that was only a few years old. This one is of (sigh) another classic short, 1949's Fuelin' Around. This short is mediocre, disappointing, and occasionally, it is just plain sad.

It is sad because of the fact that Shemp Howard had died and that they had to use a double in new scenes, but fortunately, they were either from side shots or from back shots. So it wasn't noticeable that it wasn't the real Shemp. This is another Stooge short that I really wanted to like, but due to the fact that a large majority of the short consists of stock footage, as well as the fact that this was made after the death of Shemp, it really sinks my opinion on it. I wonder how horrible Moe must have felt, to lose two brothers in only three years.

Well all in all, this is another very mediocre late-era short from The Three Stooges. I know that Shemp was dead and that the short films department wasn't making that much money anymore, but still, they could have performed some new material. And just imagine, that after this, Joe Besser came along. Joe Besser really sank The Stooge's career, I did not find him funny in any way, shape, or form. I didn't like this much you might like it. One person who does is Movie Nutball, no matter how bad something is, Movie Nutball seems to like it.
