I'm a big fan of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen and I love them as an on screen couple. However, 'Ekti Raat' does not fall under their best movies. The two are awesome together but it's mostly the supporting cast that fail to impress. Moreover the film drags at many points, especially in the second half, once the night is over. Some of the subplots could have been better done without. Actually, I believe the film required some heavy editing. There are only two songs in the entire film and I liked both songs. In spite of the movie's so many flaws, I still enjoyed watching Sen and Kumar, especially in the scenes they shared together from the beginning until the 'next morning'. I am mostly familiar with their intense performances but here both actors show a flare for comedy and the chemistry sizzles (even though they're not romantically paired, alas!). Overall, this is not the best movie of the romantic duo but the two actors shine.
