Can spirits really talk?, 16 May 2007

Directed by Jules White, "Creeps" is one of the last Three Stooges shorts featuring Shemp Howard as the third Stooge, before Shemp's untimely death in 1955. This film is a remake, with quite a lot of stock footage, of an earlier Stooge short titled "The Ghost Talks" (1949), also directed by Jules White. In this remake, the Stooges' infant sons (also played by the Stooges) demand a bedtime story from their fathers before going to sleep. So the adult Stooges relate a rather spooky story about a haunted castle, where Moe, Larry, and Shemp are ordered to move out some antique furniture.

Highlights: In the end, the Stooges' kids show no satisfaction with their bedtime story and demand a better one; while they whine about it, Moe, Larry, and Shemp use some blunt tools to let their children know it's nighty-night time (new footage). Shemp has trouble with a mischievous frog; first it croaks while he is drinking a glass of milk, then it jumps down his back (stock footage). The frightened Stooges meet Red Skeleton, who takes off his head and says, "Catch!" (stock footage). Moe and Larry react hilariously upon first encountering the live suit of armor (voiced by Phil Arnold); Moe's hair blows straight up, and Larry's hat jumps & spins in the air (stock footage).

"Creeps" is a pretty good Three Stooges remake, although the story that the Stooges tell their sons has a fairly weak ending. No wonder the kids aren't satisfied!

Great one!, 11 March 2004
10/10
Author: Movie Nuttball from U.S.A.

This is on of the spookiest and funniest Three Stooges shorts! It begins rather well with thunders storms and the howling wind! When the Stooges discover that the armor talks and they have a conversation about who he is its gets really good after that! I think I was funny when the Stooges opened that chest and the skeleton came out and he says that he's Red and Shemp says Red Skeleton! I thought that was very funny! There is a lot of other type of spooky stuff in this one and also another funny part in it is when Larry talks to the suit of armor he say to "well maybe he doesn't talk English" and then he say things in other languages and the suit of armor replies to it and Larry's hat spins around and he is very frightened! I thought it was funny! Like some other spooky type Three Stooges shorts this is a great Three Stooges short to watch over again around Halloween time!

Classic Stoogerama, 7 May 2012

This is one of the last episodes that included Shemp. Perhaps because they were getting older, or were trying to save on production costs, some of the later episodes included stock footage from earlier episodes. When you consider what the Stooges were able to accomplish with almost nothing, one can only wonder what their legacy could have been if they had some good production budgets.

This episode features the Stooges moving a bunch of relics out of a haunted castle. The shenanigans, and pranks are all here, and watching them never gets old. Every time Moe pops Shemp in the face, he deadpans towards the camera, and he always looks so happy to be there. That is really the magic of the Stooges. They always looked like they were having a wonderful time being Stooges.

Even though I have seen this episode at least fifty times since back when I was a kid, I watched it this morning, and I laughed. I knew the gags, and I could see the little fishing line pulling up the visor on the talking armor, but it was still funny. Like sharing happy moments with good friends.
