Help Barbara Stanwyck Celebrate Christmas In Connecticut Saturday at The Hi-Pointe

16 hours ago | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

“Maybe scarlet fever. It’s a better color for Christmas!”

Christmas In Connecticut screens this Saturday morning, December 5th at 10:30am at The Hi-Pointe Theater (1005 McCausland Ave., St. Louis, Mo 63117) as part of their Classic Film Series.

In Christmas In Connecticut (1945) Barbara Stanwyck stars as a magazine columnist who writes about life on her farm house when in fact she lives in a NY apartment. She must come up with a plan when she learns that her publisher and a war hero will spend Christmas with her. Christmas In Connecticut is an entertaining little screwball comedy, thanks mostly to its fine cast. In a big departure from her previous role as a femme fatale in Double Indemnity, Stanwyck displays a nice comedic flair. Dennis Morgan is smooth as the affable war hero while Sidney Greenstreet is well cast as the publisher. However, S.Z. Sakall steals the film as a »

British TV’s Innovative Original Programming Under Threat

18 November 2015 11:11 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Traditionally the International Emmys are a showcase for the rich pickings of British TV.

In 2014, conspiracy thriller “Utopia” won best drama series while documentary “Educating Yorkshire,” a look at modern schooling, scooped the non-scripted entertainment prize. Both shows were commissioned and broadcast by U.K. network, Channel 4, whose mission includes programming for a culturally diverse society.

This year the nominees contain no fewer than seven British shows, excluding kid shows. They include noms in the arts, drama and documentary categories, and potential awards for thesps Sheridan Smith (in ITV’s “Cilla”) and Rafe Spall (Channel 4 series “Black Mirror” holiday episode “White Christmas”).

These shows exhibit the kind of creativity for which British TV is internationally renowned. But with both the BBC and Channel 4 facing uncertain futures, can U.K. TV sustain its reputation for nurturing programs like the ones loved by juries at the Intl. Emmys?

Christmas is a time for giving thanks for all you have, honoring your loved ones and gathering together friends and family from near and far for traditions older than we can fathom. It's also a time for movies. So many movies. Home AloneWhite ChristmasIt's a Wonderful Life...it's not the holidays if you're not parked on the couch, hot chocolate in hand, frying your brain with hours of entertainment that you've watched so much you can recite every line. Everyone has their favorite Christmas movie, most of which have gone on to become timeless classics.  But we'd like to take this opportunity to give praise to a far less appreciated (and certainly far less acclaimed) »

New Red-Band The Night Before Trailer Makes Movie Look Funnier Than Ever

12 November 2015 9:38 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

For many of us there are few holiday traditions as sacred as the Christmas movie. From It.s A Wonderful Life to White Christmas, Hollywood has made dozens of touching films that make us think of how special the season is and how much our loved ones mean to us. The Night Before is not one of those movies. The Night Before gives those movies the finger and then blows pot smoke in their face. And it.s hilarious. The second red band trailer is now out and it just shows us more of how utterly wrong this movie is going to be. It can not be stressed enough that this is a red band trailer. The language is awful. Pregnant women dropping F-bombs in church awful. You have been warned. The film deals with three friends, Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie who get together every Christmas Eve. »

Black Mirror series 3: 12 new episodes coming to Netflix

25 September 2015 7:14 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Netflix has bought 12 new episodes of Charlie Brooker's dystopian anthology series, Black Mirror...

Deeply unsettling tech dystopian drama Black Mirror, like the BBC and the NHS before it, has become one of the things that makes the UK the envy of other nations. Since the first two series were made available around the world on Netflix last year, our chums from abroad haven't been able to get enough of pig-romancing prime ministers, cranial hard drives, cartoon political candidates, biting TV talent show satire, robot resurrections of our loved ones, ritualistic psych-torture for criminals and Jon Hamm singing along to Wizzard.

Netflix loved the Charlie Brooker-penned series so much that it's bought twelve new episodes to be released as "a Netflix original". That's more than the previous two series and Christmas Special added together.

Original creator Brooker and producer Annabel Jones are shepherding the project, and writing has already begun on the new series, »

Your social media sites will not be safe, your politicians will not be safe, your farmyard animals will not be safe – there are new episodes of Charlie Brooker’s darkly satirical sci-fi series Black Mirror on the way.

Although Channel 4 produced all the episodes to date, Netflix is stepping in to helm the new run.

The streaming service – who massively boosted the series’ popularity across the pond when they added it to their collection - has signed a deal with Brooker’s House Of Tomorrow production company.

Specifically, this new alliance is committed to making ‘multiple new episodes’ of Black Mirror. Mr Brooker is said to be working on the stories already.

Traditionally, a series of Black Mirror lasts for three episodes – but we’ll have to wait and see »

Film Review: ‘Wild Card’

14 January 2015 9:00 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

To pinpoint the appeal of British B-movie bruiser Jason Statham, one need look no further than the place where the ball of Statham’s foot, the crown of his head, or the bend of his elbow makes sudden, bone-shattering contact with some lesser specimen of the human gene pool. Such collisions, alas, are too few and far between in “Wild Card,” a serviceable Vegas neo-noir that carries an unusually tony pedigree for a Statham vehicle (in the form of Oscar-winning screenwriter William Goldman), but lacks the amped-up Looney Tunes mayhem of the “Transporter” and “Crank” franchises. Lionsgate is wisely betting low on this Jan. 30 release, with a limited theatrical run and a more aggressive VOD push.

Wild Card” represents the second attempt by Goldman (“All the President’s Men,” “The Princess Bride”) and producer Cassian Elwes to fashion a movie from the writer’s 1985 paperback potboiler, “Heat,” about the various entanglements of one Nick Escalante, »
