Shemp Stooges
SnoopyStyle3 August 2023
The Stooges are the Pip Boys with a tailor shop. Their equipment is in danger of being repossessed in 24 hours. Terry 'Slipperyfinger' Hargan is on a bank robbing spree and there is a large reward for his capture. Hargan slips into the shop to hide from the cops and escapes without his clothes. Moe finds a safe combination in his pants. The guys decide to capture him when he returns. It's not so easy.

The guys get to do their slapstick on themselves and then do it to the bad guys. The guys are still doing lots of stunt work despite being in their 50's. The last few minutes has some good action. It's always great to see the boys do their own action even if it's the bad guys getting hit.

Okay remake, I'd prefer the classic original.

RIP, SEW, AND STITCH (1953) is such a close remake of SING A SONG OF SIX PANTS (1947), which was a classic, that it was almost not worth making. This is only the third mid-50's remake. The remakes improved as they got going. They got started with the better remakes when they make MUSTY MUSKETEERS (1954). This is okay, but they've made better remakes.

Grade: B

Good one with Skemp!

The Three Stooges has always been some of the many actors that I have loved. I love just about every one of the shorts that they have made. I love all six of the Stooges (Curly, Shemp, Moe, Larry, Joe, and Curly Joe)! All of the shorts are hilarious and also star many other great actors and actresses which a lot of them was in many of the shorts! In My opinion The Three Stooges is some of the greatest actors ever and is the all time funniest comedy team!

One of My favorite Stooges shorts with Shemp is none other than Rip, Sew and Stitch! All appearing in this short are the great Vernon Dent, the excellent Tiny Brauer, Phil Arnold, the hilarious Cy Schindell, and Jules White There are so many funny parts here. Dent, Brauer, and Schindell are great here! This is a very hilarious short. There is another similar Three Stooges short like this one called Sing a Song of Six Pants and I recommend both!

Tailor made

No pun intended - the Stooges are back and they try to make some money with their business. I do wonder if they made a short movie for every business there was back in the day. They surely did more than enough of those shorts that this could be true. I still stand by my thought and wish, that there one day will be a thorough examination of the history of the Stooges ... there is more than enough stuff to build upon and also quite interesting to say the least.

But back to this and some crazy jokes with clothing. Of course you have to suspend your disbelief (be it with the mannequin joke, the ape jokes, the constantly hitting of someone jokes and so forth) ...

Warning: Spoilers
"Rip, Sew & Stitch" is a good Three Stooges short starring Moe, Larry, and Shemp as proprietors of the Pip Boys Cleaners. Featuring stock footage from "Sing a Song of Six Pants" (1947), this remake has the boys searching their tailor shop for safecracker Terry Hargen (Harold Brauer), and they eventually capture him.

My favorite scenes from "Rip, Sew & Stitch": Larry is hilarious as he shouts "You stupid Stooge!" after getting his foot nailed to the floor (new footage). The Stooges dispose of Hargen and his henchmen with the help of a pants presser and a revolving coatrack (stock footage). Moe cooks pancakes using the pants presser and is interrupted by Shemp's loud, infectious laugh at the funny papers (stock footage). Shemp is also hilarious as he falls off the ironing board (stock footage).

I've heard it said that "Rip, Sew & Stitch" is practically the same film as "Sing a Song of Six Pants", but I don't think this is so. There seems to be a fair amount of new footage in the middle of this remake as the Stooges shred a pair of pants and search their shop for Hargen, with a lot of gags, of course.
