- [first lines]
- Narrator: The Casbah of old Algiers - that strange city within a city where the forces of law and order dare not penetrate. Refuge of thieves and murderers on whose gates might well be carved, as on the gates of another place, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here." And yet one of those who entered here - much against her will - was a beautiful princess, daughter of the ruler of Algiers.
- Princess Nadja: Ahmed, I've been a fool like you always said.
- Ahmed: Yes.
- Princess Nadja: And I'm all the things you said I was.
- Ahmed: You mean pampered, conceited, spoiled, arrogant...?
- Princess Nadja: Yes, but so in love with you.
- [Ahmed takes Nadja in his arms]
- Princess Nadja: But we're not married now.
- Ahmed: I remarry you, I remarry you, I remarry you.
- Princess Nadja: Oh, but there's more to it than just that!
- Ahmed: Yes, I know.
- [as Ahmed and Nadja embrace again, the thieves in the background cheer wildly]
