Where Barden showed his love for the world of theater.
12 February 2013 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

A young actress with a desire to win theatre called "Ana Ruiz" (Elisa Galvé), relegated to supporting roles, you can achieve your dream of becoming a star in a new play. The only obstacle to achieving her goal is that the employer sponsor of Play, "Carlos Marquez" (Carlos Casaravilla), want to "Ana" who fall in love with "Miguel" (Fernando Rey), becomes his lover.

The main couple Salamanca manifest, (Bardem, Berlanga), and with titles in Their career had so decisive for Spanish cinema as "Esa pareja feliz" 1951 co-directed by two, or "Bienvenido Mr Marshall" 1953, in which Juan Antonio Bardem worked as a screenwriter. Anticipating what was to confirm the decisive talks Salamanca, 1955, that was decisive in the consolidation of a new generation of filmmakers,

From this moment, the careers of both teachers definitely will separate as natural fact of their different points of view, if not so much background, so maybe if. Thus, in 1954, Bardem, directed his first feature solo "Comedians", which in the end will become a realistic tone tribute to the world of theater. A world in where he had grown up, by to belong to a family of actors.

As a document, the film tries to expose the greatness and misery of so unstable and little recognized profession, economic hardship, the renunciation of emotional stability, professional jealousy, or habitual promiscuity, or prostitution, which is forced some beginners. All this is for a different life, for freedom, where the greatest reward is the gratification of vanity, in a fleeting recognition of his work, through the applause.

His first film is excellent, so endearing subject, although it contrasts with his later works, "Muerte de un ciclista" 1955, "Calle Mayor" 1956, in which the strength reaches a critical hard real. Here then, Barden in the description of the theatre world, which respects and loves prevails condescension and understanding, even redemption benevolent for love the profession.

Although "Cómicos" can not be considered the best work of Barden, you have a great script, alternating between realistic images, or dreamlike expressionist drawings, without defining a style

As for the actors, all are from the theatre as usual, and have that touch of overacting. "Cómicos" foreshadows what will be a brilliant career in the first part of its director, works with a number of personal and definitive.

Seeing what led Bardem's career from the sixties, no doubt that "Cómicos" becomes a cornerstone of his films and by extension the new Spanish cinema.
