Bonnie Prince Charlie was a Catholic Stewart, one of the reasons he was persecuted. It would have been better to have a Catholic priest rather than a Protestant vicar and wife on the committee that Miss Nicholson (Dame Margaret Rutherford) chaired.
In one scene early in the film a character remarks that a portrait of Bonnie Prince Charlie looks more like David Niven. He had played Bonnie Prince Charlie in the film of the same name in 1948.
Early in the film Menzies mentions 'Convict 99' a reference to the classic 1938 Will Hay comedy of the same name.
Final film of Esme Beringer.
