Anachronisms

The story takes place over an 18 year period, roughly 1934-1952, but the hair styles and clothing of all the women from beginning to end, are constantly strictly 1952.

When the director Von Ellstein and Shields are having their big spat on how a just-concluded scene should have been directed and the overall directorial style and vision for the picture, the cuts between the perspective views of their arguing show Shields alternately with tensed outstretched arms and then casually folded hands on the top step of the short ladder or whatever that was he was leaning on.

Plot holes

Jonathon coaches Georgia on how to seductively light a cigarette for her movie role but her part is in a historical picture in which she apparently plays a peasant/princess living in an era when women didn't smoke anyway - let alone use a cigarette as part of romantic allure.

In Lorrison's house, Shields directs the beam from a flashlight at a picture drawn on the wall. He then moves the flashlight, but the beam does not move with it.
