Watros a bigwig in CBS' 'Washington'

7 October 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Cynthia Watros has been tapped to star in the CBS comedy pilot Washington Street. The deal with Watros lifts the cast contingency on the project, which was originally picked up in February but was later pushed to midseason because of difficulties casting the lead. Written and executive produced by Julie Ann Larson, the Warner Bros. TV/CBS Prods. show revolves around the tenants in a modest apartment building who form a family, led by a nurturing single mom (Watros). Watros, who won a Daytime Emmy in 1998 for her role on The Guiding Light, went on to star in the comedy series Titus on Fox and, most recently, The Drew Carey Show on ABC. She is repped by Innovative Artists and Principal Entertainment. »

NEW YORK -- CBS' The Young & the Restless copped 16 nominations to lead the list for the 31st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, including noms for best drama series, direction and writing as well as eight acting noms. CBS, which won eight Emmys a year ago, drew 53 nominations, the most of any network, including four of the five for best drama, followed by ABC with 50, PBS with 35, NBC with 19 and Showtime with 11, the latter of which leads the cable networks. Syndicated shows earned 53 nods. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees Thursday on NBC's Today. ABC's All My Children, CBS' venerable Y&R and last year's Emmy winner As the World Turns earned 14 noms, followed by 12 for The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated), ABC's General Hospital and CBS' Guiding Light. »
