A marketing survey has revealed that Warner Brothers is considering starting their own online movie streaming service that would compete directly with companies like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus.
Warner Brothers is considering launching an online streaming service to compete with providers like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus. Called Warner Archive Streaming, the service would primarily offer classic movies, cartoons, and TV shows from its extensive catalog, rather than new releases. If successful, the service could catapult Warner Brothers as a major player in the booming online video streaming business.
Details of the plan emerged after Warner recently asked their consumers to participate in an online survey about the service. According to a source with intimate knowledge of the survey, Warner measured interest in a streaming service that would offer many of its older titles not readily available on DVD or Blu-ray. This year is the 20th Anniversary of Gregg Araki’s The Living End and the birth of New Queer Cinema as a whole. Outfest’s Legacy Project has preserved Araki’s films, as well as the work of several New Queer directors, including Swoon!
After a screening of The Living End hosted by Outfest, I asked Gregg a few questions about his films, films today and what goes on in that head of his.
Your films never take themselves too seriously, but you always drive your point home. Where does your sense of humor come from?
I guess it’s sort of in my nature and the way I view at the world. I’m not really sure. I just sit down to write my movies and this kind of crazy stuff – my outlook on the world – comes out. »

Working in Hollywood requires skill, luck and sometimes, a helluva lot of patience. First picked up by Ridley and Tony Scott's Scott Free banner nearly a decade ago, Joe Lansdale's novella "The Big Blow" has been taking a slow and steady path to the big screen. Millard Kaufman ("Gun Crazy," "Bad Day At Black Rock") was first hired to adapt the story (sadly, he passed away in 2009) and a few years down the line, writer/director Oren Moverman was brought on to do further work. And while he's been busy on a plethora of other projects (as he usually is) bringing "The Messenger" and "Rampart" to the big screen, and writing "I'm Not There" for Todd Haynes, it seems "The Big Blow" is in the mix for his next effort behind the camera. Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey, Debbie Reynolds and “Baby Peggy” Diana Serra Cary, along with film noir leading ladies Peggy Cummins, Rhonda Fleming and Marsha Hunt are the latest stars scheduled to appear at the 2012 TCM Classic Film Festival.
Also announced today, the festival will feature the North American premiere of a new 75th anniversary restoration of Jean Renoir’s powerful Pow drama Grand Illusion (1937), widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. And the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra will provide a live musical accompaniment for a screening of the silent Douglas Fairbanks fantasy-adventure The Thief of Bagdad (1924).
