Just because you've got an education doesn't mean that you'll fit in with every profession or the other workers. Roddy McDowall finds out the hard way, having earlier met seasoned logger Gordon Jones and taking him up on the offer for a job when he gets out of school. When newly returned supervisor Ted Hecht realizes that the girl he left behind (Jeff Donnell) wasn't exactly waiting for him to return and is now interested in Roddy, he sets him up to fail so he'll leave the camp. But things take a dangerous turn, and it's up to Roddy to save the day.
This is an enjoyable programmer, one of several action films that McDowall did at Monogram after leaving MGM. He's also the producer so it's obvious that his heart was set on breaking out of the mild mannered animal lovers he had played opposite Lassie, Flicka and Elizabeth Taylor. Donnell, out of her longtime Columbia contract, is perfect as the camp cook, pretty but not out of her element. Jones, Hecht, Lyle Talbot and Tom Greenway also provide memorable performances in an outdoorsy adventure that has some really tense moments and rises above your standard B action film.
